Aw, thank you so much! You can’t believe how funny it is that you ask that question because my art friends already think I have a foot fetish as is — but here we go.
I think what helped me the most in drawing shoes was drawing a lot of feet from photos first? Like, A LOT. The kind of amount that makes your friends wonder about your special interests.
I mean, everyone learns in their own way but for me this is the only way to learn imagine objects in 3D space. Besides that, when I draw feet now I think of them as consisting of 4 shapes that can move independently:
And then I just.... sorta wrap the shoe around that.
To be honest I don’t really have a specific technique for that, just keep in mind that different shoe types have different shapes (that build on top of the foot shape), and use ludicrous amounts of reference.
