POV: The Vet Said Diet…..You Heard Treat
When the vet told you your puppy needed to go on a diet, you didn’t take it too seriously. I mean, sure, they had a bit of a belly, but if anything, it meant they were well-fed and happy, which was a good thing… wasn’t it?
Sure, their clothes were starting to look a little snug around their middle, but you figured there was nothing wrong with a little “puppy weight.” The vet was probably just being overly cautious.
So you kept spoiling them… maybe a bit too much…
Your woken up one night to a heavy, familiar weight as your puppy climbs on top of you, straddling your torso like they always do but this time your gaze drops, and you finally start it notice.
Their belly is still swollen from dinner and that extra “just one more” pre-bedtime treat you gave them. It’s stretched tight and round, hanging low and full, pressing firmly into you before the rest of them even settles. When they shift, it drags slightly, then sinks into you with a dense, overfilled weight.
And then you hear it
A low, unmistakable gurgle
Their belly, still full, quietly protesting everything they already crammed in it. soft sounds coming from something that clearly didn’t need anything more
They’re panting softly, clearly still stuffed
then a quiet, wet little hiccup slips out of them
They pause… then immediately huff, annoyed
A sharp little stomp of a paw against your chest, followed by a push, a bit more forceful this time. Not asking. Not polite. Another impatient sound, almost a complaint, like you’re the one who’s late to a schedule you didn’t even know existed.
MORE
You stare at their swollen, heavy belly, then back at their spoiled, expectant expression.
…yeah
Maybe you’ve been spoiling them just a bit too much.
