So...it's been a while, huh? Above you'll see pictured just a small sampling of part of the reason why... Long story short: back in April, my friend, Janet, and I started working on fixing up an old barn on her and her husband's property so we could put a studio up on the second floor. A pottery studio, more specifically. Seven months and a whole lotta elbow grease later, we have a functioning studio pottery with throwing wheels (both electric and fly) that we call Thelma and Louise, an antique slab roller we named Bessie, and a lightly used (fired once before we got him) kiln that we gave the moniker of Walter to. My Dad and I built an eight by four foot work table, screens, and a driftwood coat rack. We made aprons. We rolled slabs, pinched pots, slapped clay, spun wheels, wedged 'til our backs ached, threw 'til our fingers bled, waited (im)patiently to open kilns, and even gave ourselves a name. We are DeerField Pottery & Art Studio. I'm still painting, though not nearly as frequently; I'm treating the clay as canvas now. If you would like to see the complete journey, I've been posting regularly on Instagram (like, almost every day). I'm over there @deerfieldpottery There's even a couple of selfies, if you've ever wondered what I look like (oh, the horror!)
