Note! This is a building block of all future saiki fics where he has powers! To get around the canon, i wanted to develop a lil anecdote for why Saiki would even go for the reader in the first place!

you’re the only one. that’s what immediately strikes him.
he’s standing there, as usual, in the back of the classroom, trying to make himself invisible, when he glances at you. nothing unusual, right? except… he can’t read you. not a single thought. not a flicker. and when he glances through his x-ray vision, everything is… normal. no secrets hiding behind your skin.
he frowns behind his glasses, pink hair brushing his limiter antennas. “good grief…” he mutters silently, though you don’t hear it. he’s not used to this. everyone’s mind is an open book. everyone. but you… you’re a closed door. a puzzle. an anomaly.
that realization sticks in his head. the more he tries to ignore it, the more he can’t. he watches you from a distance—calm, laughing with your friends, completely unaware. he’s intrigued. annoyed. fascinated. all at once.
he starts finding excuses to be near you. subtly. in the library, at the cafeteria, passing by the classroom doorway. every interaction is carefully calculated, mentally noting your expressions, your habits, your faintest reactions. he can’t manipulate your thoughts, can’t predict you, and… somehow, that’s thrilling.
he’s never… felt this before. normally, he’s untouchable, untouchably bored. now there’s curiosity, tension, and—he reluctantly admits it—something softer. something like a crush.
“offu… seriously?” he thinks, exasperated at himself. “of all people… it has to be her.”
every time you smile or tilt your head, he feels that pull, that urge to know you. not to read your mind. just to… exist near you. he can’t explain it, doesn’t want to. it’s inconvenient, distracting, but somehow… enjoyable.
and so, for the first time in his life, saiki kusuo has a secret he can’t uncover—not with powers, not with gadgets, not with manipulation. a secret that’s all his own. you.

you know what i appreciate so much about victoria aveyard? she doesn’t take the easy way out in her plots. she could super easily take the route of having an overpowered protagonist who can fix everything in the snap of her fingers or even just time jump it or gloss over how fixing a government works. but she doesn’t. mare is muddling through. she’s a political figure sure but she’s also not too good to be a foot soldier either. the politics of red queen don’t rest solely on her shoulders, and the fight for freedom of redbloods isn’t going to depend on whether or not she’s there. she was just the spark that ignited the political machine to move. and i truly respect that so much
In a world where the rules of reality have shifted due to a global fusion, Lin Moyu takes on the hidden class of Necromancer during his job change. With this rare class, Lin Moyu becomes nearly immortal, as his life is tied to the survival of his summoned creatures. As a powerful Necromancer, he declares himself the God of the Dead, wielding his undead army to wreak havoc on enemies. His journey is one of immense power, where he sits atop a throne of bones, walking the fine line between life and death.
Hero X Demon Queen follows the story of a man who just wants a quiet life in the countryside, but fate has other plans. Transmigrated into a new world, he becomes a foundation-level figure in a novice village. To his surprise, even the Demon Queen, who once ruled over the world, is defeated by a dog he raised. As a result, the Demon Queen starts living in his house, and his peaceful days are filled with unexpected adventures alongside the powerful queen.
So I think this should have been obvious to me a long time ago…but I’ve only just now realized (after a good long bit of self-reflection) that I pretty much only love fandoms with overpowered main characters. I’m thinking about making a comprehensive spread sheet to compare the attributes of said characters haha
But really, I think I just love that the struggles of these overpowered characters are most often internal, emotional conflicts. When it comes to the heart they can be rather daft, but in battle they are hands down a menace and going to fuck shit up. That vibe of “oh shit they’re here” is just…
So good. <3
I can’t even describe the sensation I get in my chest when they show the bad guys what’s up. Or dazzle the bystanders? Oh yeah.
It’s such an obvious and overdone trope, but I will die on this hill, please and thank you. The real world is too difficult the majority of the time, I wanna walk in someone’s shoes whose not bound by the laws of nature.
