The Day of Trouble
“May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble! May the name of the God of Jacob set you up on high [and defend you]” (Psalm 20:1).
We have all experienced days or seasons of trouble- when it starts to feel as if all our problems are pulling our soul away from the Light, and circumstances are overwhelming. During these times, we know to cry out to God for help, and we recognize the need for someone bigger than ourselves to trust in, lean on and rely on. But the spiritual shift from focusing on our trouble and focusing on the Lord can be a struggle. Yet, in the middle of our efforts to turn our hearts toward the Lord, our weakness acknowledges that only God has the grace and strength we need to enable us to keep stepping forward. When the Samaritan woman asked Jesus, “How should we pray, on this mountain or in Jerusalem?” …It is in spirit and in truth that true worshippers should pray.” Thus he led her back to her own heart, the dwelling-place of the Holy Spirit of I AM. Because Jesus loves us and lives within our hearts- He never turns away from us or leaves us, even in the day of trouble. Sometime we run away from Him, because of our fears or negative emotions, but His love is always faithful- waiting and present when we return to Him. He is pleased when we want and need to give Him a place in the ongoing process of our lives…..including times of trouble. He yearns to hear us talk to Him, and as we pour out our worries and fears onto Him, He will help us work out our heart. As we become more spiritual, the Spirit will be able to unite with and fill us more. Then we will be able to trust Him more fully to see us through to a better place. God wants us to experience a “lifting up” in our spirit when we encounter Him during prayer…… As He replaces our heavy, troubled, burdened hearts with His Light, love, hope, and joy, we will discover He will defend us and make us safe. While abiding in Oneness with Him, we will discover and experience rest for our hearts—even in the middle of our “day of trouble.
