Personal note: One of the reasons Mercy (and many of the other support characters ) has always been my favorite OW character is because I have always had connection to the medical field. I grew up in a family where almost 80% of my family ( many of whom are amazing women) had some kind of career in the medical field — nurses, PAs, X-ray tech and etc — and many of them are still actively working, including my own mother who is also a diabetic which makes her a very high risk for serious complications should she contract Covid.

Not only that, but for a very large chunk of my 20’s I worked at hospital as my day job . I also have a lot of friends and their familes who are also in the field. So , I know first hand what these guys are in need of and want to try give back in anyway I can.

So, make sure to thank your support! ( ....btw,yes, I know sym is no longer a support. But sue me.)

As a person who mainly plays healers, my thought on being thanked is this:

You don’t have to thank me all the time. As far as I’m concerned, you do not need to thank me for every heal I do or even if it’s downtime between pushes and I’m topping you off. You don’t even need to upvote the healer every match, whether it’s me or someone else!

That being said...

If I am the only member of our team on the upvote board, after we BARELY eked out a win, and I literally got a gold medal for 12k+ healing, and kept our asses alive by the skin of my teeth...

Bitch. You BETTER upvote me, or I will wish a pox upon all of your houses.

(Yes that did happen to me and I upvoted myself because no one else did. Fuck that noise.)

The Supports’ support group

After hard missions, all the supports get together and just... drink. And bitch.

Mercy drinks mostly sweet things, like dessert wines, liqueurs and fruity drinks, but she’ll also down two pints of beer in no time flat, so the others have to try to get her to pace herself. She usually ends up face down on the table slurring her words, talking about how they don’t come to the edge of the ledge for healing, and they’ve let her drift off into the bottom of a well more times than she can count.

(They Skype Moira, who is usually halfway through a bottle of Irish whiskey by the time they get started. Yeah, she’s the enemy, but she still KNOWS. She knows the pain of trying to heal spray a sniper who needs a touchup but won’t come to the F@#$ing edge. Or of Doomfist launching himself in the air for a meteor strike, but it leaves her completely alone with 5 enemy agents. Again.)

Ana will drink literally anything. She’s been on the run for years, and she lived through the omnic crisis. She's used to drinking whatever is available and not being picky. She’ll grumble (first in english and then in Arabic once she’s wasted) about how they never sit still or how her own teammates will wander into her shots, either stealing healing from another teammate or preventing her from finishing off an enemy. No respect for their elders.

Lucio also drinks just about anything, but that’s because he doesn’t want to cause a fuss or seem ungrateful. He’s more cheerful with his bitching, laughing about his experiences mostly but still bemoans that his teammates can’t understand the concept of staying within the circle when they need a top off. He tries not to bitch about Pharah too much (Ana is RIGHT THERE), but if he gets really shit faced, he’ll bitch loudly that she can’t seem to get that he can’t do much from on the ground. What? Is she allergic to landing?!

Brigitte is not yet jaded, and honestly she feels uncomfortable with these drinking and bitching sessions. She just flails her mace around, tosses out armor and has a great time. But she wants to show solidarity, so she drinks her pints of beer and nods her head to the other’s complaints.

Zenyatta doesn’t wish for much, but sometimes he wishes he could get dunk too... They never seem to remember that his orbs require line of sight. He doesn’t say much, and acts as the designated babysitter, making sure they eat food and drink water. (He watches Moira’s animals come investigate the camera sometimes after she passes out. The bunny is so cute!)

Symmetra sits outside and guards the door with some turrets. She reads a book, drinks some tea, and is glad that she got out of support class. She’ll help them make sure they get uninterrupted down time though. Her turrets will ensure that.
