The Norva: Norfolk Hottest Music Venue
Since its birth in 2000, the Norva has become a landmark of exquisite proportions in the downtown area of Norfolk. Before his arrival, the city lacked a place where music lovers of all genres could converge and enjoy great national events. Of course, there was the Boathouse and other small bars in general admission to see live music, but none had what Norva has to offer, so its creation almost unprecedented for the theater is remembered area. The of an old theater, large movie you might have seen in the 1950's. Chandeliers hang from the ceiling and the balcony covering the wall space on the second floor. The theater has been in the music of all genres, from soul to punk, rap, indie rock, country to pop, and beyond. The Norva offers something for everyone, with a full beverage menu to boot. The sound in the Norva is one of the best on the east coast, and anyone who has been in places like Washington, DC 930 Club and other places of note will tell you that the sound exceeds most of them. There are falls of course places a huge scale. For example, drink prices are overwhelming, with beer ranging from five dollars or more, and mixed drinks cost even more. The service is less than outstanding, and security can be a little intimidating. The Norva is a non-smoking, which means that smokers are forced to huddle outside in a "boom" of sorts between sets. The advantage of the outdoor area is that some seats are provided, and usually there is a beer garden to supplement what they can avoid going in and out of drinks. One can complain that the price of tickets for shows at the Norva is a bit steep, but keep in mind that almost all the shows that are sold by Ticketmaster locations, ie, the place has no control over Ticket costs. Sometimes the Norva not host local bands for a much cheaper price. While there are some disadvantages, generally the people of Norfolk are delighted to have a prestigious place here, bringing in acts that normally would not think to stop here. This, combined with great sound, good atmosphere, and great energy surrounding the Norva make it one of the most important monuments and notable Norfolk to come over the years.
