PreOp for Isla || Long & Yang

Dr. Cristina Yang walked to the PED's wing of the hospital. Robbin's had booked the OR and it was time to bring Amelia's daughter into surgery. She had requested that the observation deck of the OR be closed, and had informed Amelia of the procedure. It was time.

Cristina rounded the corner of the PED's wing. As she walked into Isla's room she saw the familiar face of Dr. Long. He sat at the bedside of Isla, holding her hand. "Dr. Long.. I didn't know you had been paged for this case." she said confused as to why the doctor was in the room, " Neuro's already been cleared; It's aortic stenosis. We're taking her up now."

Cristina walked out of the OR, beaming. Another perfect surgery, she thought as she threw her OR scrubs in the trash bin. She had just performed a ventricular restoration while her cardio fellow performed a Septal Myotomy in the OR next-door.

Cristina, who held everyone at a high standard, expected a lot out of her cardio fellow. After all, she had specifically picked her, and a poor performance from her fellow was a reflection of poor teaching. Cristina had never been considered poor at anything. She stepped out of the scrub room and picked a coffee cup off of the counter; she had sent one of her interns for coffee while she was closing the patient.

She sighed and rubbed her eyes while she leaned against the sink, waiting for the caffeine to kick in. She looked at her watch, 11:43, she had a few hours until her next surgery. Enough time to check-in on the OR next door and even run some post-ops. She took another sip of her coffee and walked out of the scrub room. As she stepped into the hallway she saw someone leaning against the wall, "Hey." She said, grabbing their attention as she walked down the hall.

Amelia & Cristina

Cristina laid in the bottom bunk of a bed in the on-call room. She had tried to sleep, but couldn’t. Something was keeping her awake, she couldn’t shut her mind off. She stared at the ceiling waiting for something to happen. For an incoming trauma, or her patient to code. Something would happen. She could feel it.

As she laid there, her pager went off. She jumped out of the bed, and grabbed it: “911 PEDs” She rolled her eyes, probably another kid with a ‘tummy ache.’ Just the same, she heard Bailey’s voice in her head, “you answer every page at a run. A run.” She sighed and began to run towards the PEDs wing. Rule number 2.

Amelia had finally gotten Isla asleep, after spending all night up with her, trying to break the fever that had hit the little girl’s body. Isla was slumped over her mommy, cheeks still red and hot as her head rested on Amelia’s chest. Amelia had been stroking the young girl’s hair, and she herself was exhausted. Isla hadn’t slept at all, and had just cried and thrown up, and then eventually become so exhausted, that she just whimpered for a few hours, snuggled up with her mom until she finally gave in and fell asleep. She wasn’t sure if Ryan had been woken up by the noise of last night, but she hadn’t seen or heard him, so that was a good sign, and hopefully he’d slept through. She looked up as someone opened the bedroom door and stepped inside. Amelia nearly always left the front door unlocked, and most of her family and friends knew to just come in, because she nearly always missed a knock or the doorbell.
