          “ so  caroline  stopped  me  earlier  today . ”      jenna  continues  to  stir  at  the  beef  in  the  skillet  before  her,   grease  sizzling  before  popping  out  with  an  abrupt  crack .      wednesdays  had  become  their  unofficial  taco  night  in  the  weeks  following  jenna’s  move  in    ---    one  of  the  few  meals  she’s  confident  she  can  make  without  absolutely  butchering .      “ she  asked  if  we  were  all  going  to  that  summer  festival  thing  starting  tomorrow .      i  don’t  know  about  you,  ”      the  brunette  says  as  she  turns  to  face  elena  at  the  kitchen  island,   gesturing  toward  her  niece  with  the  spatula  as  if  to  underline  her  words,      “ but  i  got  a  sudden  craving  for  a  funnel  cake .      we  should  go !      you  can  see  your  friends  and  maybe  i  can  use  it  to  find  out  who  jeremy’s  been  sneaking  out  at  night  to  see .      win  /  win  for  both  of  us . ”
