Internal camp GA, La Défense (Paris - #OccupyDefense)
Tuesday 29 November 2011 – 11:20 AM – Parvis de La Défense (92) [Paris]
Topic: #Occupation of La Défense
Participants: About twenty persons attended the meeting.
Secretary: Sato
Moderator: Self-managed, using the talking stick
Fact: There are fewer and fewer of us, rain is threatening, the wind is blowing, winter is coming on fast.
Summary of what was said by speakers about the #occupation:
The #Occupy La Défense action has strong symbolism and must be maintained.
It's a meeting point for work.
During the day: Positive: A place for meeting, exchanging information, raising awareness.
Do away with the cardboard boxes (problems with rain and wind -> negative image because not clean)
replace with plastic sheeting.
At night: purely symbolic! No people passing, and even creates a negative image (people who are drinking, violent, not respectful show up)
The cold makes everything harder, really a lot harder -> need to rest/work in a warm place, prepare for actions, and relay each other on the #occupy action
Reduce the camp and the kitchen (or even eliminate the kitchen), and tarp everything.
Some are for a ’round-the-clock occupation, requiring some 15 people, in the form of a relay so people can save their energies.
If people are going to sleep the night, we need cameras, lamps.
Or else, occupy during the day and leave the occupation at night?
We need to #occupy other places [squares?] in Paris.
Occupy the police!!
Summary of speakers on a legal, bricks-and-mortar living space:
A place to rest and prepare supplies for #occupy.
Provide a place where we can create a media center, work areas, kitchen, library.
Make it a kind of social center for the Indigné-e-s, where families can come.
A place were actions can be prepared under better conditions that at the #occupy camp.
Consensus:
Consensus was reached on finding a “bricks-and-mortar” living space. This space will include a kitchen area, rooms for resting, and work rooms for the different commissions and working groups.
Such a place needs to be found within 72 hours, due to the urgent weather situation. In the meantime, a minimum camp will be tested – clean (no cardboard), with a minimal kitchen, all guarded at night.
Ideas that emerged:
Raise awareness in Paris, do other #Occupy actions.
Thanks to everybody for the consensus.
