Character in general: Thorin is one of my favourite characters of the Legendarium for various reasons: for one, he encapsulates the sense of honour, pride, but also collective loss and grief that (for me) have come to define the culture of his people. He was my first reference point . For another, I admire the perseverance and determination with which he sets off to reclaim Erebor, despite the numerous non-dwarves belittling him and treating him with condescending behaviour. Also, this guy beat the dragon sickness. How much more heroic can you be, without falling into the trap of being your cliché, black-and-white, morally superior and faultless epic hero character? (No, I’m not looking at you, Aragorn.) How they play them: I’ll never grow tired of saying it: Lexy has his voice down to a T. She’s crafted a very believable representation of Thorin and most importantly, treats him with respect instead of writing him off as a disoriented joke who makes wrong decisions left and right. The Mun: I was super intimidated by Lexy at first because she’s just so cool. But she’s also a genuinely nice and welcoming person, who I have some interests in common with. We discovered that fairly quickly, and lo and behold, here we are, one year later, still crying about dwarves and Corey Taylor’s neck together.
