Hello! I’m Gabbi. I have been writing ever since I could string together words. I started with fan fiction, but have since branched more seriously into the world of original novels. All of my WIPs, for now, take place in the same fantasy world during different time periods and with different characters. It allows me to make new stories without having to reinvent a world/lore each time. I focus mostly on the relationship between two people and how their story unfolds.

I’ve never been very good at sharing my work, but I really want to challenge myself to be part of a community of writers and I can’t quit tumblr so... *gestures vaguely* ...here I am.

Favorite Tropes/Content: Fake Dating, Found Family, Diverse Casts (LGBTQ+, POC, mental health and disability representation), male characters that aren’t afraid to show their emotions and just feel (let our boys be soft sometimes), I’m willing to read most things if they’re well-written.

Of Yarrow and Daffodils (Current Nanowrimo 2022 Project):

Low fantasy in a contemporary time, Third person alternating POV between the two MC’s, romance (some smut) and exploration of how success is relative to the individual and you shouldn’t compare your success to that of others.

Eusadora knows her life is in shambles. That isn’t anything new. Her ex-fiancé called off their wedding a month before they tied the knot, she’s still stuck at home with her family, and, to top it all off, the elder crocus flowers have yet to bloom this season and she can’t figure out why.

Clearly, the god of good fortune has it out for her.

When Zebulon Yarrow shoves a bouquet of daffodils in her face and declares his crush on her, she wonders if the strings of fate are finally pulling in her favor?

Of Coast and Courtships:

Fantasy in a regency-esque time, third person alternating POV between the two MC’s, romance (some smut, lots of sexual tension), heavy political intrigue b-plot

Nemaia Nevarro, aptly referred to as the stone hearted heiress by her peers, has played the game of courtship for the last four months. Some would say she’s bad at the game, but she thinks she’s quite good. She doesn’t play it to find love. No. It’s so people stop talking about her father and the fact that he’s off chasing after ghost ships. 

But when people start speculating on his whereabouts, Nemaia is forced to face a harsh truth. Is she ready to take the mantle?

Mordan Rothenel may have made an error when he agreed to accompany his employer’s son, Theus Maistel, across the Jasper Sea to try to win the heart of the Nevarro Heiress. He thought it would be a quick trip, one that had him back home by the Eve of Frost, but his hopes are dashed when he’s forced to bear witness to the most painfully one-sides courtship in history.

His only silver lining is that he now resides in the largest port city on the continent. His experiments require rare goods and he can find them here – right at his fingertips.

Side Character Intro - Azalyn LeMarc

Name: Azalyn Cecily LeMarc Nicknames: Az Title: Princess - though titles are considered old and outdated, especially now that the monarchy in Etosa is considered more of a quaint feature rather than a governing party with its advising council, but some people value tradition and the titles remain. ~120 years old - she/her - bisexual

Physical Description: Azalyn has warm brown skin and hooded eyes the color of liquid gold - her hair is a thick and wild mess of dark curls that falls to mid-back - she is pleasantly plump with ample hips and thighs - when she smiles her whole face lights up. Personality/Background: People would describe Azalyn as a light in the dark. Her smile captivates a room and her laugh draws them in like moths to a flame. She has always been well-liked and knows exactly what to say. She’s a people pleaser and wants to make everyone happy. When faced with a decision where someone might be unhappy, she clams up and doesn’t know what to do.

Eusadora’s cousin - their mother’s are sisters

Her mother is half mountain nymph, half human and her father was human. Her father died young when Azalyn was still in her early teens. Her mother currently serves as queen though the city is currently working on transferring from a straight up monarchy to a council like the Veridian Coast.

She assists her Uncle Theus with the Maistel Fashion line. Though not related by blood, she is the only one that voiced an interest in pursuing fashion and hopes to inherit the company when he retires.

Only visits the Veridian Coast 1-2 times a year, but would like to relocate full-time if not for her royal duties back home.

Summary:

Eusadora Nevarro knows her life is a hot mess right now. Her fiancé dumped her a month before their wedding before crawling from the woodwork, new fiancé in tow, a few months later. She's still stuck living at home with her parents (and her perfect twin brother). And now, her the elder crocus flowers her parents cultivate for their blue saffron trade are dying and she can't figure out why.

To say the gods have it out for her is an understatement. But everything changes when Zebulon Yarrow shoves a bouquet of daffodils in her face and declares his longtime crush on her. With his help, could the tides of good fortune finally shift in her favor?

Nanowrimo 2022: Of Yarrow and Daffodils

Side Character Intro: Pippa Merriweather

Name: Pippa Anne Merriweather Nicknames: Pips Title: None 19 years old - she/her - asexual

Physical Description: Short and squat -- wheat colored hair, normally covered with a straw hat - always wearing some kind of coverall/overall situation, it is normally embroidered with flowers or fun patches of fabric. She looks quite young with fat still rounding her cheeks. Personality/Background: Pippa manages the elder crocus fields when Dori can’t be on the grounds. Though only nineteen, her family worked those fields for generations and she knows them better than anyone. When the previous caretaker retired, Eusadora fought to have Pippa as her new one despite her age. Passion mattered more than experience. Some might call her emotional, but she just feels so openly and isn’t afraid to hide her emotions. Lots of things make her cry - someone speaking to her too firmly, a particularly beautiful crocus bloom, piglets in tiny hats. It’s not that hard.

Notes:

She is a full-blooded human.

She is the youngest in their friend group, the other two being closer to Eusadora’s age if not older, and everyone treats her like that loveable kid sister. It was a bit of an adjustment for Larkin and Nelka when Pippa was named the new caretaker.

Can drink ALL of them under the table - never get into a drinking game with Pippa. She will win.

Quick as a whip and charismatic - she has only been serving as caretaker for a few months at the start of the novel, but she already has the whole team wrapped around her finger and they don’t even realize it.

Name: Nemaia Ellison Nevarro Nicknames: Maia, Mai, Ma (by her children) Title: Marchioness - this is an outdated title she inherited when she first took the Nevarro family mantle almost 180 years ago. She hardly ever goes by the title and really wishes people would stop using them. The Veridian Coast has been a governing council for nearly a century now. ~200 years old - she/her - demiromantic

Physical Description: Medium height and weight, slate grey skin with white and black flecks like the surface of stone - black hair worn straight around her shoulders, full sclera black eyes, always wears a deeply saturated lip stain the color of wine or plums. Personality/Background: Eusadora likes to say Nemaia has two settings - her ma, whom most would want to interact with. A woman who is charming and always has a story up her sleeve. A woman who loves her family so fiercely that she’d do anything for them. Then there’s the Marchioness... Eusadora hates dealing with the Marchioness. The playfulness melts away and she commands a room with a single stare. She makes it look so easy. It’s not fair.

Notes:

Her mother was a mountain nymph while her father was human borne. She grew up in a society that feared what they didn’t understand. They tried to get rid of her, so she got rid of them instead.

Once believed love never existed beyond pretty words in romance novels, not until she experienced a love story of her own.

She and Eusadora are more alike than Eusadora probably realizes.

One of the best chess players on the Coast - she loves to challenge people to a game because she believes it tells a lot about a person’s character.

Looks put together to the public but is prone to panic attacks and often needs her husband to ground her when they’re particularly bad.

Saw personally to the transition from an aristocracy to a democratic council. The current state of the Veridian Coast is in large part because of her, but she attributes the success to those that came forward to help her.

WIP Wednesday

Wanted to share a quick excerpt from one of several original WIP’s that I’m working on. This one is from Of Yarrow and Daffodils, a contemporary Romantasy I’m working on.

“Do I have a choice?”

“You always have a choice.”

“It doesn’t feel like it,” he mumbled, “Are you sure you’re not just manipulating me into doing what you want again? Real clever. Making me think this trip was just an excuse to hang out with me.”

Oh, Zebulon wanted to do this now. Fine. If he wanted to aim at low hanging fruit, she could definitely go lower.

“You have a choice,” she said sharply, “I know that I suck, and trust me, the guilt is killing me right now, but I never once left you without a choice. The same can’t be said for me.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

“Your confession? In front of everyone.”

He blinked.

“I never wanted to go out with you. Shocker, I know. But the situation you created made it impossible for me to refuse without looking like the biggest asshole.”

At the time, Eusadora thought she had a choice, but looking back, not really. Refusing him would have made things that much worse for her. Everyone would have made her out to be the villain and she was tired of being the villain in another man’s story.

What's your world's government like? Are there longstanding dynasties that control things, or an election process? Is there more than one culture/kingdom in the area?

There are several cultures and kingdoms on my continent, all of which range have their own independent governments. A brief overview of some governments outside the Veridian Coast: Northern Etosa has a longstanding Monarchy that follows the LeMarc family. Elves living in the Kadmir Forest have a matriarchal council comprised of four Guias and the Prima who serves as their head. Once, the faedorn followed a Theocracy, but have since adopted the council structure like the elves.

Now onto the Veridian Coast where my two stories are focused:

During the events Of Coasts and Courtships, the Veridian Coast runs as an aristocracy after successfully seceding from the Grenaut Monarchy. Three noble families rule -- House Oberlin, House Yarrow, and House Nevarro. It is not a perfect system because Oberlin and Yarrow often vote for policies that benefit themselves rather than the people they oversee. Nevarro cares more, but they are often vetoed.

Over time, Nemaia Nevarro the head of the Nevarro House moves the Coast away from the aristocracy and instills a democratic council with seven elected officials. Elections happen every three years and while there is no limit to the number of terms someone can serve, most will stop after two or three (Nemaia is not one of those people).

While they meet regularly to draft policies and vote on larger issues, each member is encouraged to develop special programs based on the issues they want to see addressed in the city.

Example: Nemaia developed an exchange program between maiden nymphs and citizens of the Veridian Coast. As a half-nymph, she saw the way people feared things they didn't understand firsthand, so she seeks to foster a relationship built on shared experiences.

This democratic council-style government style exists in the events of Of Yarrow and Daffodils.
