The Good Witches of Oz (2)
As I said before, the original Oz had two Good Witches. The one in the North and a Good Witch of the South: the famous, iconic Glinda, the eternally-young, red-haired sorceress ruling over the Quadlings. Here is the design Denslow made for the character, with a very strong heart motif of his own invention:
However, unlike for the Wicked Witch of the West or the Good Witch of the North, Denslow's design was not the most famous or influential one for Glinda... Because, unlike the Good Witch of the North, Glinda was a recurring character in the ulterior Oz books of Baum, and as a result people were much more familiar with her depiction by John R. Neill, who became the official Oz illustrator after Denslow. However Neill had a quite personal approach to Glinda's design, who became a tall statuesque woman with black hair.
When it comes to other illustrators, they usually keep the "statuesque queen with a flowing dress" aspect of Neill's design while giving back her original red hair:
