If Ozone Generators are so Terrible, Why Doesn’t Statistics Show It?
Introduction
Ozone is known for its powerful oxidizing capability that is tremendously useful in treating contaminated water, or in general water treatment including purification of indoor air, preservation of food, and disinfecting spaces in hospitals. Ozone generators and ozone air purifiers came into vogue as a result of ozone’s powerful oxidation capabilities.
Ozone comprising three atoms of oxygen, with one detachable oxygen atoms that has the potential to completely alter the chemical composition of the cells or substances it comes in contact with, but within a limited timeframe, makes it a compelling case for ozone production onsite through generators. However, nothing can be farther than the truth.
The case for ozone generators
The assumed or proposed benefit of ozone has become the key marketing driver for ozone manufacturers. However, there are a number of reasons why this may not necessarily be the case. There are reasons to believe that it has an adverse impact on the health of individuals who inhale ozone air and what’ more, it may not even be as effective in controlling indoor air pollution as it is popularly believed. Ozone manufacturers also apply marketing strategies that make ozone look attractive such as activated oxygen, energized oxygen, activated oxygen, pure air, or trivalent oxygen to promote it among consumers.
Moreover, with the demand of for clean drinking water and the need to recycle given the depletion of natural resources, there is an increasing need for effective sterilization to remove contamination, and ozone provides the greatest solution to this problem. What manufacturers do not tell you is the harmful effects of inhaling ozone beyond a specific concentrations that can harm your lungs, lead to shortness of breath, including other coronary respiratory problems. If an individual is already suffering from respiratory issues such as asthma, the higher level of ozone in the air only makes the case worse by weakening the body’s immunity to fight any bacteria that is inhaled.
With the bigger picture of the need for clean natural resources and an increasing affordability among consumers, the demand for ozone generators or ozone producing infrastructure adds to the demand and in this bigger picture, the fine details published by scientific reports about the true capability of ozone in effectively eliminating indoor air pollutants is easily clouded. Studies demonstrate that not all contaminants found in indoor polluted air can be quickly destroyed by ozone by actually takes months or years to get rid of because of the nature of their composition. While recovery is possible from short term ozone exposure within limits, the long term exposure delivers long term devastating effects making recovery difficult.
Some countries have also introduced regulations to bring down any violation of devices that produce ozone beyond permissible limits and ward off health injuries. Infact even within permissible limits, ozone is not necessarily completely effective in treating indoor pollution. Ozone generators are popularly used in treating water treatment plants, sewage systems, and with governments across the globe investing in infrastructure to support their countries, ozone generators are bound to become a dominating presence.
