For Lack of Foxes || Severus & Alecto
It was a pleasant sort of burn, she decided, scorching and searing as it disappeared through her lips. She hummed in satisfaction as it trickled down her throat, setting her heart on fire. She threw her head back and took another swig from the bottle, letting out a shriek of frustration as nothing more than a tiny trickle reached her waiting mouth. She dropped the empty bottle carelessly on the counter, nodding at the bartender for another.
It was a nice sort of oblivion too, she thought, grinning hazily as she took the bottle from him. It wasn't quite an escape, so to speak, but more of a pleasant calm inside of her, her thoughts muted and muffled rather than jumbled, though still tripping all over each other in an effort to reach the forefront of her mind. And yet, she pondered, there was something strange about alcohol. All you have to do was to keep drinking and drinking and drinking, and your entire awareness of the world begins to slip through your fingers, and there's nothing you can do to stop it. And from that time onwards, you're in a strange state of limbo, not quite awake, but not asleep either, and nowhere in between.
She let out a girlish laugh, and took another gulp of firewhiskey, swirling the contents of the bottle a few times and glancing up at the clock hanging above the counter. Fuck. Throwing a few coins in the general direction of the bartender, she leapt onto her feet, tripping a little on a stray table leg. Stupid stupid stupid stupid. She stumbled her way through the seating area and up the stairs to the rooms in the inn, still not quite comprehending why the floor seemed to rush up to meet her each time she took a step.
She didn't bother knocking as she finally reached the door, throwing the door open as she all but fell into the room, the liquor inside the bottle spilling a little over the rim. "Sevvy dearest!" she yelled, kicking the door shut with her heel. She clumsily set down the bottle on the bedside table before throwing herself across the creaky bed, collapsing into a fit of childish giggles as she landed. "Did you miss me, Charming?" she asked breathlessly through her snickers, pulling off her coat and shoes and throwing them across the room, running her hand through her hair.
