just breathe | arthur & minnie
May 14th Order Safehouse @arthurs-weasley
There wasn’t a moment to breathe.
After the Ministry fell, Minerva naively believed they were free from further assault. Thus far the world had given them horror, pause, horror, pause - but this came fast, brutal, and unwarned. It left them little room to find their families, their friends, their children. The wounded became just as expansive as the dead. And just after one charge there came another, mere days later, on St. Mungo’s.
And she hadn’t been able to help.
Guilt was heavy in the waking hours after the last horror show, her memories flooded with anguish as she recalled getting there too late. Always too late. Towards the end of the Ministry, watching people die and being unable to stand protection, and towards the end of the hospital, too. She despised having gotten intel too late, she despised knowing that she could have saved some of them - or died trying.
Her hours, presently, were spent guiding innocent people to the castle. It was the only thing she could do until they were being healed, where she found she couldn’t help much, and was turned away. Not with aggression, of course, it was just that Minerva McGonagall was in the way - a feeling she despised more than Aversio themselves. It was for this reason that she was making her way through the castle, learning of its corridors, careful to make a mental note of those she cared about. Some safe, some missing - who would she find out had not been so lucky?
But when she spotted that familiar ginger hair, Minerva felt her heart jump into her throat. “Arthur!” She gasped, knowing her composure was easy to slip around her old friend. “I’ve never been so happy to see you safe.” And with that she took the strides forward, pulling him into a much-needed hug, uncaring if he didn’t want it.
