For the most part Peter could handle his job. It paid his bills and it wasn’t overly strenuous. It wasn’t ideal, and it certainly wasn’t glorious, but most jobs weren’t he supposed. Still, it gave him some independence, and at least he wasn’t a total bum just living on his parent’s couch (not that such a scenario was even possible). However, there were nights when he desperately wished he could make some crude gestures, throw his apron on the bar and walk out.
Seriously, who came in ten minutes to close? As the bus boy, that meant he was officially going into overtime—only it wasn’t overtime because he was a part-time employee. He glowered at the nicely groomed head of the mountain that had settled in a nearby booth with poorly hidden dislike. He knew who it was of course. Colin had made sure to tell all of his employees that Mr. Crabbe be treated like a V.I.P. The kind of V.I.P. where if you pissed him off you could kiss your job good bye. He didn’t look that scary. Peter thought snidely, absently scrubbing his towel over one of the ketchup bottles he’d just refilled.
He weaved his way to the other side of the room (careful to take a wide path around Crabbe’s booth) to begin working on the condiments of the other tables. It was almost five minutes before he realized no one had even stepped out of the kitchen to take Goliath’s order, which meant they probably hadn’t heard the door bell. Grumbling inwardly he heaved his body back out of the chair he’d settled into and headed toward his booth, mumbling, “Just let me get you a waitress. Don’t think they heard the bell in the back.”
He thought he heard the man say something and gave serious consideration to pretending he hadn’t, but he really couldn’t afford to get fired. Not bothering to hold back a heavy sigh of irritation (it was fucking five to close after all) he turned back to the blonde. “Sir?” Maybe if he played stupid, the guy would just let him go get whoever was in the back. I hope its Liza. She can’t help but be annoying, and he is a handsome fucker so she’d try every flirtation in the book.
