restless, drained, over-worked-- again. alise had grown weary and the words printed on the pages of her textbook became a blur as she studied vocabulary, sentences a jumbled incomprehensible mess. a quick glance at the clock, 11:14 PM. not a surprise that nearly five hours had passed, all dedicated to one thing tonight-- studying. better yet-- every night. it had to be the fifth time she reread the same sentence, perhaps the thirtieth. though she'd become accustomed to the daily routine, not that she particularly enjoyed it.
with a brief moment of resting her eyes, she peeled them back open gently, head falling back on her shoulders as she let out a breath. eyes falling on the left over half of a blunt, her fingers shortly curled around the drug. she needed some air.
it wasn't long before alise was surrounded in the crisp gust of the night, arms clenched tight to chest as she brought the lit paper to her lips, allowing the fumes to fill her up inside before letting it out to dissipate into the wind. crazy to say, it was actually quite relaxing, the simplicity of night, minus the dangers it could bring-- especially being out after dark alone, she felt a sense of calming release. though the bustling city was anything but serene.
she didn't veer off too far from her apartment, maybe a block or two of idle walking, her legs in control to carry her wherever they wanted. though, she knew she couldn't go too far, in fear of a strong possibility of being seen.
upon reaching the end of the sidewalk, she'd began to head back when she came head on with someone else, the blunt falling from her fingertips onto the ground as she stumbled. in a puddle, too? really. when did it even rain today? ugh-- she could have smoked the rest of that another day. "god, watch where you're going!" she grumbled, kneeling down to pick up the soiled item without even caring to look at the stranger. she should have stay inside, where she belonged.
