Hello! I am new to the fandom and i wanted to know what the rules are on editing. What types of things are we allowed to edit/gif? What should we stay away from? Thanks in advance!
you see, there is only one rule on editing, as far as i know, and it's safe to say that this applies to all fandoms, not only winner's:
feel free to edit or gif any official photos, music videos, shows and appearances from youtube and other sources BUT do not use any fantaken material (fansite photos, personal fancams, etc.) unless a permission was posted along with it or the one who owns them stated that it is allowed.
most of the time, fansite owners who allows editing have certain conditions. so if you are going to edit some of their materials, makes sure to follow their rules. some are very strict, so please be mindful. remember, fansites are gifts from the heavens for us international fans so respect their rules. we don't want them shutting down.
i wish i can enumerate fansites who allows editing but unfortunately i'm not much knowledgeable on the subject. you can check f-yeahs here on tumblr tho. they usually tag the editable materials.
i guess that's it. it's simple, right?
welcome to the fandom, enjoy your stay and brace yourself for the ups and downs and all the crazy that is winner. /winks
Location→ District 4; Mayor’s Home, Docks, 55th Reaping
Time Frame→ The week of the 55th Reaping.
“Thalia come over here, there’s someone I want you to meet dear”
Her mother was using that sweet, endearing voice that was only ever used when they were out in public. In appearances like these they were the happy, content and picture perfect family of the Mayor; beautiful, rich, strong but approachable. When they were hosting a dinner party or at any sort of gathering with people just as wealthy and influential as themselves her mother became a completely different person. Her hands would find their way onto Thalia’s shoulders, though they were still frigid and cold even through the soft material of her evening dress, in an attempt to portray a close bond between mother and daughter.
Of course the blonde did as instructed, walking gracefully across the overly decorated room with soft footsteps and the posture that had been all but beaten into her from the moment she could walk. Her mother was beaming, the same smile that Thalia herself had perfected; empty and didn’t quite reach the eyes but beautiful because they were beautiful people, as she gestured with open hands from the 16 year old towards the person she’d been previously speaking to.
“This is Nilus; he was just telling me all about how well he’s been doing with his Tribute Training – top of his class across the board, isn’t that right?” The woman’s acting really was off the charts, enthusiasm so well faked that had Thalia not known her mother there would be no question about the sincerity behind her words. The young man nodded enthusiastically, sea-foam green eyes lighting up with delight that she was so eager to hear about what was no doubt the highlight of his life so far.
His skin was a much darker bronze than her own and his hair a rich sandy blonde colour, he was tall and well-built and very pretty to look at and while Thalia’s face remained fixed in her polite smile there was a flicker of panic beneath her cool expression as she realized why her mother was so keen to introduce the two. She hadn’t realized her mother had continued to talk, relaying all the important information about Nilus and his family and their wealth because she’d been too busy allowing her usually stoic mind to be consumed with waves of outrage and panic.
She chanced a glance at her mother, an all too pleased expression on her face and grey-blue eyes shining with delight at the thought of all her hard work coming to fruition at last. Calathea continued to speak with a sparkle in her eye; they were both 16 and the odds of either being selected for the Reaping were very low indeed because of their families, but since Nilus wanted to be a Tribute he would no doubt volunteer on his last available year and come back the victor – there was no way he wouldn’t win. Then Thalia would marry a past victor, just like her mother did and oh wouldn’t that just be delightful.
Arranged marriages weren’t unheard of, especially among the higher classed, but in such a large and wealthy district most people still married for love. All her years of grooming and etiquette lessons had been leading up to the moment her mother would find a suitor and marry her off, but Thalia had allowed herself to be caught up in the daydream she’d created for herself. Her fixation on a certain fisherman had long gone past curiosity and admiration; the blonde had even allowed herself to think that maybe if they got to spend time with him just as she had that they’d approve of her choice for a boyfriend.
“Excuse me, please…I need to use the restroom” she stammered out quickly, earning a cutting look from her mother for rudely interrupting her and a confused look from the male version of a siren standing before her. Hands gripped to the fabric of her dress and bunched it together as her nerves frayed under the force of reality crashing into her and crushing her world. Thalia never did enjoy taking her head out of the clouds, it was worse than feeling sea sick the first time she’d gone out on a boat.
Thoughts flooded her mind as the long legged blonde quickly made her way through the party and towards the hallway, turning instead for the front door and not for the bathroom as she’d stated. She needed to escape, if just for a moment, and the overwhelming need to go and speak to the one person who actually took the time to understand the slightly odd blonde was drawing her away from the manor and towards the docks, managing to move at a great speed even in her high heeled dress shoes.
It was silly, really, to have allowed herself to become so consumed by the one thing she could never hope to have. Control wasn’t something Thalia had over her life so to assume she’d have control over whom she would love was a silly notion indeed. Yet from the moment she’d met the old sea captains son she’d felt a connection to him, drawn in by his large and warm amber eyes and his soft smile and kept there by the fact he wanted to get to know who she was behind the layers built up by the expectations of people who were supposed to care but didn’t. Blake was an honest, earnest young man and very handsome at that – yet because he was from such a humble home he could never compete with a man like Nilus (a rather stupid name but then she was called Thalia so she could hardly comment.)
Just like her Blake hadn’t gone into Tribute training either instead he opted to spend that time learning the trade that would keep him and his family well fed. Unlike her he had his own dreams, re-building his father’s old ship was the main part of that though when they’d first met he’d insisted he wanted to become a pirate as they grew older than notion faded (though he liked the idea of a hook for a hand, boys never grow up) and the idea of simply becoming the best fisherman in the District would do. He was strong and resourceful yet nimble enough with his hands to create the finest of nets and knots and he patiently taught Thalia how to make them too since she had such an obsession with learning about the trades, even though she’d never have to work a day in her life.
Between him and his father the blonde felt like she had found a home and a family and she was still embarrassed whenever they brought up how she’d broken down into hysterical tears the first time she’d received a hug from them – something she’d never once had in her life. Yet with every step she took towards the docks she felt them being torn away from her, every memory becoming painful to think about because she knew that’s all they would ever be, and there would be no chance to create more with them.
Of course they were there even after the sun had set, father and son eating an evening meal on the tied up boat as they watched the night sky reflected off the water below them. Neither male moved as the sound of heels clicked along the boat, used to the sound of Thalia’s finer clothing after spending nearly every day with the young aristocrat for almost 4 years. What took them by surprise however was the pained look on her face, blue eyes flickering with pain yet not shedding a tear – crying is such an ugly thing to do Thalia, never cry.
There was a look on the old captains face, one that a father would wear if their daughter ever came into a room sobbing, as he shifted in his seat in concern but his son was already stood in front of her clasping her hands between his own as he tried to catch her eyes and understand what was so wrong. Of course it was obvious to anyone who spent time around the young pair that they had feelings for each other so his father didn’t react as he watched the two silently exchange looks –they had the annoying ability to talk to each other without speaking and so he sat in silence for as long as his patience would allow.
“When you’re ready to fill me in…” he trailed off gruffly, sighing through his nose in annoyance of being left out of the loop – it was never any fun being the third wheel but he was used to it.
“My mother’s found somebody she approves of. You should’ve seen her, practically grinning with pure glee.” The blonde voice while soft and quite was cold as she spoke quickly, not picking up on the dark haired boys look of disgust behind her as she addressed the older man. “They’re at a party-I was at a party with them…but looking at her face and then him and being in a room of people like that made me feel sick. I don’t want to get married to him or anyone else but…; I had to leave before I actually told her that.”
“Okay, so why can’t you tell her that?” Blake cut in, dropping his hands from hers and voice like stone as he cast a glare at the ocean rather than aim it at Thalia. It was the age old disagreement they had; him getting annoyed at her for not speaking up and allowing people to make decision after decision for her when it was obviously nothing she wanting and she would get frustrated because he couldn’t understand why she couldn’t. Yet this time it was different, like her lack of conviction was directly affecting him – and in her mind it was, but she’d never really known for sure if he was just being polite and friendly to her or actually cared to since she’d never had anyone care for her before them she had nothing to compare it to.
Amber eyes continued to stare at the water as it rippled around the boat, strong hand gripping onto the iron railing as Blake lost himself in thought. “If you stay, if you go back you’re going to have every inch of your life mapped out for you and you’re going to hate it. Don’t disagree or defend them, you’ve said that before yourself and I can see it no matter how much you pretend everything is all rainbows and sunshine for you. So I propose you don’t go back…”
His words lingered in the air between the three of them, causing Thalia’s brow to crease in confusion, and stayed there as silence filled the gap. It was broken moments later when the Old Captain hummed in thought and looked between the two teenagers, understanding his son’s words far better than she was. “So you’ll what? Take the boat and go, just you two, leaving an old man here with nothing but what the state will provide to live on?” he paused, greying eyebrows knitting in false frustration which caused both to shake their heads in immediate disagreement –they’d never want him to think they’d think of only themselves.
“Sounds like a much better plan that just going along with what your mother wants. Scary lady, even when she was younger she had a stare that could pierce right through to your bones” he let out a gruff chuckle and a shudder as he remembered the days when her mother wasn’t the well groomed social elitist but just another set of hands on the docks. There was a moment of unison blinking between the pair as it registered he was giving them his blessing to leave if they wanted to before Blake made his way across the deck and clapped his old man on the back before hugging him tightly.
Thalia stood there, dress and hair blowing in the ocean breeze, as she attempted to wrap her mind around what it was they were suggesting. To escape the cold iron grasp of her parents, choose what she wanted to do, to make her own rules –if anything seemed like the fantasy it was this, yet they really were stood in front of her discussing the logistics. How it would have to happen before the weekend, after all the very party she’d been attending was for all the top scoring trainee’s before the Reaping on Saturday and how lightly and discreetly Thalia would pack so she wouldn’t raise suspicion.
In fact between the pair they’d come up with as close to a perfect plan as one could. Of course it was risky but they were resourceful and enthusiastic about the idea, Thalia stood numbly and thought over her options- the thought of going home to collect her things made her feel ill but she couldn’t not take her music box at least. So she’d done as instructed, make it back before her parents did and grab what she could and make it back to the docks before she could get caught. Yet she came to learn she was right all along, it was just another fairytale moment and of course it was going to come crashing down around her when reality came knocking.
-----
Thalia swallowed nervously, fingers twitching as she tried her hardest to stand up straight and still. It was the day of the reaping and she was stood with the other girls of her age, looking onto the stage with clear fear on her face. Not because of the reaping, no her terrified gaze was directed at her parents and their place above the crowd as they looked down from the stage. Nothing more had been said when her father had caught her packing her things, swooping in the room and telling her she was not to go back down to the docks again. Her brain had not stopped whirring after she realized he knew where she went and thus knew about her plan, or at least had an idea of it.
Her parents had been quiet for the rest of the week but made sure she was inside their manor at all times. Thalia had not spoken to Blake or her father so when she caught sight of both of them on that Saturday morning she felt a rush of inappropriate relief, even if there was something very off about their expressions.
Her name was not drawn for Tribute and she did not volunteer when the opportunity came, why would she?, and the blonde was almost relaxing when the male tributes name was drawn. He was another trainee tribute, someone who would’ve volunteered for the games anyway and so nearly everyone gathered let out a breath relief until another voice cut through the crowd.
Had she not been focusing so intensely on her parents Thalia probably wouldn’t have picked up on the tense look her father gave Blake seconds before it happened. Had she not known the dark haired boy so well then she probably would’ve mistaken the tight expression on his face for fear but as it were she was watching her father at that moment and she could read Blake better than any book. There was a reason she’d been locked away and there was a reason she’d been brought up her entire life to follow the rules set by her parents and she was reminded of that the moment Blake spoke.
“I Volunteer as Tribute” his voice was steady and strong, eyes looking straight ahead towards the stage – towards her parents and with that single look Thalia understood very well what had happened. Her parents had threatened him into volunteering, not to punish Blake but to punish her for even thinking about breaking the rules, and their message had been sent loud and clear. A good girl always does as she’s told Thalia, after all mother knows best, and if she doesn’t –well then the punishment she receives will always be fair.
