Rion was born into wealth- born to a woman with a sharp eyes and pointed words, born to a man with steel nerves and immovable calm. They would play the crowd around them like finely tuned instruments, his father melding in seamlessly while his mother shone like a star that burned too bright.
So he should be used to it all- the pandering and kiss-ups, the snide words whispered behind gloved hands and the hidden agendas- but in reality Rion would just trail after them, feeling small and young and looking up to his parents for support. When his parents were no longer there so went the parties and all that came with it.
Until now.
He allowed himself a little liquid courage for the night [but he never knew his limits did he?] and he felt light, bubbly like the champagne in his hand. So of course his mood would pop like one as someone began to pester him.
Maybe it was his terrible memory... but he had no idea who the man before him was. Unfortunately the stranger seemed to know him, dropping his uncle’s name and speaking of business deals and ‘loose ends’ and there is an expectation in his eyes that Rion knew he couldn’t meet. The collar of his shirt felt far too tight and his mind was muddled with drink enough to choke out a “No-”
And as the man’s expression changed, Rion felt himself flinch and look away for a way out. If not for his drinks bringing a flush to his cheeks Rion would be paler than the white of his suit, and when his eyes locked with sharp gold there was a silent plea for help.
