Jia had been on plenty of first dates. Because of this, she had considered herself the queen of them, never once having a second because of her tendency to make a bad impression--guys don't typically like it when you see their dirty thoughts at the dinner table, although she didn't mind the attention. What was new, however, was the concept of a blind date, but her friend Fei thought it to be the best idea, setting Jia up with a nameless circus member. Jia was left with two details to help identify the stranger and she chanted them in her head (although they were quite vague) while she stood outside of the medical tent, fingers nervously fidgeting with the hemming of her blouse that hung loosely above her bellybutton.
Cute with glasses, cute with glasses, cute with glasses.
There had been few that had fit the description and of those few, she had only spoken with a couple of them in passing--she was rather standoffish in most situations by nature. But although she had been around the circus for several months, she had yet to meet most of the other 'freaks', sticking around only a couple of areas and shying away from any gatherings where she might become overwhelmed with voices. Regardless of her seemingly shy demeanor, she still felt a surge of excitement at the thought of meeting this mystery man and had been guessing what his ability might be, imagining cute guys in glasses that can fly or spontaneously combust. Her overactive imagination had painted plenty of pictures since the early morning and as her eyes scanned the people passing, she hardly noticed that she was rocking childishly on her heels.
Several minutes went by and finally someone stopped, rather short and fitting the description that Fei had given. Jia started to bring up her hand to wave, but he seemed to look right through her, scanning the crowd just as she had been doing just moments before. She opened her mouth to greet him, sure that he was the date that she was there to meet, but just as quickly as a squeak passed her lips, he turned in the other direction, completely ignoring her existence--an odd thing, as she was dressed quite nicely and her hair wasn't the usual mess of curls. Jia stepped towards him, reaching out and tapping his shoulder lightly, clearing her throat loudly. Maybe he had trouble seeing? That seemed possible because of the thick frames.
"Excuse me," she said in a soft voice, tapping again. "Are you looking for someone?"
