★ when lies become the truth :: baekho + bomi
song title: i run to you artist: lady antebellum acoustic cover by: elizabeth and chris
that night was probably willow's favorite part of the second day's schedule. the talent show served to be a fitting segue after a long day, allowing her and the rest a few hours of entertainment with live performances from the attendees themselves. as expected of her, willow signed up for a performance of her own. well, technically she's not on her own, because she would be sharing the stage with chris (his real name was apparently baekho), the guy whom she had spontaneously agreed to have a duet with. during their free time, he belted out a few notes of a song they agreed upon while she strummed her guitar and that was it; there was no denying that he made for a great half of the duet. as soon as the previous number ended, willow and baekho walked up to the stage, the girl taking her spot on the stool while perching the guitar on her lap. making sure that feedback wouldn't rip through the air in piercing screeches, she adjusted the first mic near the guitar and the other in front of her. she shot a glance at baekho before sharing a nod of understanding, taking that as a cue for her to start talking. with an amiable smile, her voice resonated through the whole room in a characteristically australian lilt. "good evening, everyone. i'm elizabeth--" willow gestured for baekho to introduce himself, "and we're doing a half-impromptu acoustic cover of lady antebellum's "i run to you". we hope everyone's enjoying their night so far. without further ado..." she trailed off to make way for the first verse of the song, her deft fingers plucking the strings into fluid chords. as baekho began to sing, she started nodding her head into the rhythm. it had always been easy for willow to zone out whenever she sings--that's the key to overcoming stage fright and self-consciousness. always. it didn't take long before her hands almost seemed like they had a mind of their own, strumming a bit louder into the chorus in a uniform pace as her voice mingled with his in a harmony.
this world keeps spinning faster into a new disaster so i run to you, i run to you baby when it all starts coming undone, baby you're the only one i'll run to i run to you
so far, so good. she wasn't really expecting much of this, heck, she initially just wanted to perform for the sake of her guitar. she wouldn't have brought that all the way to jeju without doing anything more than to kill boredom, now would she? thankfully, baekho had an excellent grasp of his notes; that's what mattered most in the great scheme of things.
i always run to you, run to you...
willow closed the song with a few seconds of fill, a second of silence drowning the audience before applause followed. she was, with no doubt, proud of the performance. grinning at baekho, she held her thumbs up in an approving sign. "good job, mate."
