Well The Night Was Going Half Way Decent / Darren and Evan
Evan was curled back up in the bed in the spare room, empty beer bottles lying around her and the bottle of aspiring spilled out next to her. She’d drank and popped the pills almost like candy the night before while trying to block out Darren’s insistent whines at her while he tried to get through to her and get her to acknowledge his presence. And then there was the ten different kinds of food he’d dragged home with him that were still sitting there untouched. Right now though, the brunette was passed out cold on the bed, her stomach rumbling loudly as she tossed and turned, obviously fighting something or someone off in her sleep. The nightmares had begun almost immediately after she got out of the hospital and she was more than sure Darren knew bout them but thankfully he never said anything about them. Hence her reasoning for sleeping in this room and not in bed with him as often as she could.
Darren had spent the morning having a rather obligated chat with his agent about where his career was currently heading… which was down the drain. As one would assume, he already wasn’t in the best of moods when he arrived back at the apartment. Hearing about how spending four years studying at one of the top performing arts colleges in the nation landed you absolutely /nowhere/ tends to be a bit of an off-putting conversation. However, his bitterness washed away the second he stepped foot inside his home and remembered the troubled girl who he had gotten into yet another argument with the night prior. In his mind, Evan was more important than his acting career. Darren called out Evan’s name several times upon entering the apartment, and when he received no response, he assumed that she was probably still sleeping off her hangover. The boy crept into the spare bedroom, a grimace settling on his lips when he took glance of her constant tossing and turning. Darren had always been prone to nightmares of his own, but Evan’s seemed far more violent than any of the ones he had. He took a hesitant seat at the edge of her bed and flattened his palm out on the brunette’s hip. “Evvy..” he mumbled, genuinely concerned about her well-being. “E-Evan, you should probably get up for a little bit just to take a shower and maybe have something to eat… Alright, baby?”
Evan didn’t even remember the last time she’d been able to sleep through a night without waking up screaming almost at the top of her lungs. It was just a little embarrassing, but the pills? They kept her asleep when she took enough of them. Despite all this; the fights, the pushing away and the way she attempted to treat Darren? He didn’t leave. He didn’t throw her out and it scared her a little bit about how dedicated the male was to try to fix her. The touch to her hip had her hand flying, connecting with Darren’s jaw as she whimpered and squirmed away from the touch. “N-no I promise it won’t happen again. I won’t do it again.” She sounded downright scared as she fought off her imaginary attacker in her sleep.
Darren had to admit, Evan’s constant aggressive nightmares did intimidate him just a tad, but what about the girl didn’t? The brunette’s attack caught Darren off-guard, and earned a low whimper from the boy. Rubbing his palm against his twinging jaw, he studied Evan as she yelped and thrashed about. He originally assumed that it was just another one of her nonsensical dreams, but he grew concerned upon sensing the apparent fear in her voice. Fright? Well… that was an emotion that Darren didn’t even know Evan was /capable/ of exhibiting. “E-Evan,” he uttered, tone far more perturbed. The boy hastily shook her shoulder, in hopes of wakening her. “Come on… Wake up, Evvy.”
Darren went on to attempt to shake the girl awake to no avail. When she didn’t wake up after a few more jerks of his arm, Darren began to panic. “E-Evan… W-Wake up, Evan,” he called out to her. The boy emitted a disgruntled sigh when Evan shot up from the bed. Scooting closer to the brunette, Darren draped one of his arms around her shoulders and pressed his forehead to the side of her head. “I-It was just a b-bad dream, baby,” he crooned, trying to soothe her fright to the best of his abilities. Darren slipped his hand up the bottom of Evan’s shirt and traced mollifying patterns along her spine. The normally overly-brazen girl now appeared so unnerved and vulnerable, and Darren wasn’t quite sure how to go about aiding her in this futile state. She would surely tell him to leave her be, but the male just couldn’t bring himself to do such a thing. When one so close to his heart seemed so horribly broken, he couldn’t just walk away. He was annoyingly persistent, yes, but with honest intentions. “You’re o-okay, Evvy… N-No one’s gonna hurt you, alright?”
Evan stared off into space, not answering him when he tried comforting her to the best of his ability. She actually shy’d away from his touch and tried to curl up even more. Despite the fact that the scabs from her actions a few days earlier stretched and threatened to break open, she did it anyway. Normally after she woke up, she was able to run into the bathroom and lock the door. She hadn’t been so lucky this time. “Whatever,” she mumbled and ran her fingers through her hair before rubbing her hand over her face. “What the hell are you doing in here anyway? I obviously didn’t say you could come in.” She sighed and picked up one of the empty bottles with a growl. Wonderful. “Fucking hell, I thought I saved one.”
Darren continued to trail his fingertips along Evan’s back, despite her obviously abrasive body language. Aannnd here they’d go again. Not a minute had passed before the two would launch into another fight about Darren’s obsessive over-protection and Evan’s destructive behaviors. “I-I went to check on you like I a-always do, and you were kicking and screaming in your sleep,” he mumbled, making an effort to respond in the most non-disputative manner possible. Eying the female’s desperate search for some alcohol, Darren bit down on his lower lip to keep himself from saying anything he would regret. The male pushed back a strand of Evan’s hair and lightly pressed his lips to the tip of her ear. “I’ll get you some more later on if you eat something,” he said meekly.
Evan threw him a look when he continued his actions and tried to explain why he was there. She wasn’t in the mood to fight. She was far too drained from that dream to be able to properly fight him back. She flinched when his lips pressed her ear, clearly something in that dream had made her shy away from things. “Great, use the excuse of me eating to let me have some alcohol,” she sighed and just curled up on the bed. “Fine, I’ll eat something.” Again, she wasn’t going to argue, she felt like hell and arguing would only make her worse. “Go get me something then from the buffet you brought home.”
Darren ’s eyes lit up when Evan finally agreed to eat. He knew for a fact that she had been hungry all this time, and wasn’t quite sure as to why she kept denying food for the past three days. “Thank you,” he murmured, brushing his thumb against her cheek. The boy scurried into the kitchen, where he grabbed a bag from the grill and the Asian bistro he had went to the prior night, before returning back to the spare bedroom. “Here. Um… If you don’t want any of that, I can grab you something else,” he uttered, as he placed the bags down beside her and sank back down onto the bed. Darren rested his hand atop her hip, for no other reason than to quench the desire he had for physical contact with the girl.
Evan sighed and uncurled herself from the ball she’d placed herself in. She was taking these moments to recollect herself, get back her snark and bite that she had all the time. “I’m not doing it for you. I’m doing it for the booze,” she said sarcastically and took the food, favoring the Asian bistro as she pushed her back against the headboard. “I want Jack Daniels and Bacardi.” To appease him, she started eating some of the food, despite not really wanting to. “Next time I’m dreaming? Just..let it happen.”
Darren turned around to face Evan and merely nodded when she took a jab at him. He withdrew a cheeseburger from the remaining bag and took a generous bite. It may have been slightly soggy after leaving it out for the entire night, but in Darren’s eyes, food was food. “Only if you promise me that you’re not gonna drink it all in one night,” he retorted, although he knew that the girl wouldn’t hesitate to go against her word. Tentatively reaching his free hand out, the male interlaced his fingers with Evan’s. “B-But you looked so upset.” Upset didn’t even begin to explain what Darren had witnessed just a few minutes ago. Evan appeared so horribly miserable, and the boy couldn’t bear to watch her writhe around in such a state. “You were crying and screaming, Evvy. I c-couldn’t just… leave you there.”
Evan set the food down and looked at him then looked at his hand when he laced their hands together and just narrowed her eyes slightly. “Was I? Huh, oh well. Don’t remember it.” She shrugged. It was a bold faced lie though, she remembered it. Clearly even as if it actually happened to her. “Yeah, you can leave me there. I’d wake up and not remember what it was bout in the first place. I don’t remember my dreams ever. Probably had something to do with a movie I watched or something.” Evan gave a nonchalant shrug of her shoulders at him before deciding to touch the thing about the booze. “I can’t say that I won’t and you know that. If I drink it all, I drink it all. I’m giving you the money for it so it’s not like you’re spending your own.”
Darren set the half-eaten burger down, before scooting closer to her. The male hovered his other clammy hand over Evan’s knee, as if he were debating whether or not descending it to the point of contact would elicit a choleric response from the girl. Knowing Evan, it probably would, but almost all know that Darren isn’t exactly one for rational thought. Maintaining eye contact with the brunette, Darren placed his palm atop her knee and curled his fingers around her leg. “You were. Well… whatever it was, you looked like you were suffering something awful.” Darren assumed that Evan was well-aware of her actions, but was just too embarrassed to admit to it. He would have normally pressed the issue, but judging Evan’s behavior as of late, that probably wasn’t the best of ideas. “I know… But you’ve just kinda gotten yourself into a bit of a shit cycle, y’know? You’re never gonna get better if you wake up horribly hungover every single morning.”
Evan knew the hand was going to touch her. This was Darren after all. Personal space was something he knew nothing about. “Oh, well whatever. Dreams are dreams. Can’t hurt you.” Giving a shrug, she leaned back and looked over at him when he started giving a lecture to her about her drinking. “No, I have myself in my usual cycle, thanks. I don’t have to get better. Christ I’m fine the way I am. I’m alive aren’t I?” She rolled her eyes and just curled up on the spot of the bed. “I’m fine now, I ate. You can scramble back to whatever you were doing or going. Pretty sure judging by the way you’re dressed that you were going out or something.”
Darren caressed the side of Evan’s leg with his thumb, having lost track of whether he was trying to comfort her or himself through the gesture. “Do you have dreams like that a lot?” he tentatively inquired. Darren was no psychologist, but he had sat through enough sessions of therapy to know that reoccurring nightmares were almost always indicators of some deep emotional trauma in one’s past. “I have nightmares a lot as well, but, uh… none of them are ever nearly as bad as whatever the hell you were going through just a few minutes ago.” The male anxiously chewed on the inside of his cheek as he listened to Evan’s defensive response. “Yeah, you don’t /have/ to do anything. But I think you’d be a hell of a lot happier if you did get better… W-Whatever, this isn’t going to go anywhere so can we just drop it?” Leaning back onto the mattress and propping his head up in his hand, Darren ran his fingertips along the girl’s forearm. It was quite sad, really. He couldn’t keep his hands off of her if his life depended on it. “Nah, I don’t have plans for the rest of the day. I got back from meeting with my agent a couple’a minutes ago. I actually, um… th-thought that I could spend some time with you?”
Evan closed her eyes and buried her face into the pillow for a moment and quietly screamed into it. Usually she’d do it with the shower running but unfortunately this time it wasn’t going to happen. “I don’t know. Maybe? I don’t remember what I dream about so I really wouldn’t know.” Looking over at him, she just laughed. “Like I said, it’s only a dream, the only way they can apparently hurt you is if you die during one. You know the saying that if you die in your dreams, you die for real? I guess it’s true.” That’s what Isaac always told her anyway. “Oh..what went down with that lovely person that I screamed at on the phone a couple of days ago?” When he said he thought he could spend time with her, she just sighed. “Yeah, fine, but try whispering sweet nothings to me and I’m going to cut your fingers off.
Darren emitted a nervous laugh when Evan screamed into her pillow. “Good morning to you too,” he quipped, running his hand through the brunette’s bedraggled hair. “Okay, well, um… I can’t imagine you do, but if you ever want to talk about it I’d be happy to.” He felt the need to put that out there, although he knew that Evan taking him up on his offer was just as likely as Hell freezing over. Not quite sure what she was getting on about, Darren just nodded in response to the girl’s spiel about being hurt by one’s dreams. “Oh.. Hopefully you won’t die in the middle of any of your dreams… at least not anytime soon.” The boy was a bit taken aback by Evan’s question. That was one of the first times in their entire “relationship” that she had ever inquired about him. Most of their conversations just consisted of aimless yelling and tears… the latter mainly on Darren’s behalf. “Not much. I’ve got an audition for a role in this supernatural series that’ll be coming out on Showtime… So at least that’s a step up from getting my prosthetic penis bitten off.” He couldn’t help but snicker at the intricacies of his career. Starring in the remake of Teeth was definitely /not/ where he imagined he would be five years ago. “R-Really? Oh hell, I didn’t think you were going to say yes because you almost always reject me but this time you didn’t reject me and that’s probably only because you’re too worn out to reject me… and I’m going to shut up now before I give you a reason to reject me yet again.” Darren’s cheeks flushed a bright shade of red as he spiraled off into his uncontrollable verbal conglomeration. Running his hands over his face, the male puffed out his cheeks, wanting to kick himself for his habitual rambling. “Okay, well, uh… I hate to be that dull prick who offers to watch a movie, but do you wanna watch a movie or something?”
Evan really would have kicked him if she wanted to but honestly right now, the brunette oddly wanted to be held. Nuzzled. All that lame shit that Darren attempted to do to her twenty four seven and she pushed him away for. And yes, she was inquiring about what had happened because frankly, the boy needed a job - a paying job. One that wasn’t some lame b movie that would not get him anywhere. “Oh. Supernatural? That’s not too bad. Better than you playing a guy that gets his dick bitten off.” Rolling her eyes when he mentioned about her constant rejection, she curled up more. “You know, keep rambling like a high schooler and I’ll actually kick you out.” Patting his reddened cheeks, she actually gave a smirk. “Fine, yeah, we’ll watch a movie since you seem to have this insistent need to keep touching me every five seconds. Let’s watch the original Teeth. You can point out exactly who you’re going to be playing to me that way.”
Darren gave a one shoulder shrug as he continued to comb his fingers through the girl’s hair. “Yeah, but can you really think of anything that /isn’t/ better than playing a guy that gets his dick bitten off?” he retorted, shaking his head at himself. A grin drafted onto his lips when Evan compared him to a high schooler, and the male playfully nudged her with his elbow. “I know that was intended to be an insult, but hell, a high schooler is a big step-up from the six year-olds I’m constantly compared to.” The feeling of her hands on his cheeks only made him blush even more. “Alright. But it’s a sequel, it follows a different plot line… I mean, it’s still the same shit about some chick with fangs in her pussy, but it includes different characters and all that jazz.” The male lowered himself down onto the mattress and slung his arms around Evan’s waist, pulling her closer to him. Darren seemed to be getting increasingly comfortable with Evan and, while that would seem like a good thing to most, his ease would surely end up backfiring one way or another. Things always did when it came to the two of them. “I’d go put on the movie… but that would require getting up, and I kinda don’t really wanna do that right now,” he murmured into the back of her neck, palms roaming over her thighs.
Evan thought for a moment before answering. “Actually, yeah, I mean it would suck to play a role on CSI where you’re already dead and all you do is lie there while they fake cut you open to examine how you died. It just sounds super boring.” Oh God, he’d gotten giddy by her comment and she snorted. “Oh don’t worry, I’ll wind up calling you a 6 year old by the end of the day. Oh..a sequel. Whatever, still same damn story, it’s all the same but at least it can’t be as pathetic as some of this shit they put out these days.” Evan oddly didn’t even try moving away from him when he cuddled up against her back. She actually moved back so she was pressed up against him as close as she could. Maybe, just maybe, for the day they could do this and fighting wouldn’t ensue. “Watch the hands, they try to grope me and you’re going to your room to think about what an idiot you’ve been.”
Darren gave Evan a nod of approbation upon hearing her response. “I guess… But hey, you’re the last person who should be ragging on those people. Have you forgotten that you also get paid to lie across a table?” The male snickered at his own joke for a few seconds before realizing that Evan might’ve taken offense to his comment, and immediately tensed up. “I mean, uh… sorry,” he mumbled, glancing down at the ground. “Thank god, I’d hate for you to go a full day without comparing me to a toddler,” he snarked, although he knew damn well that he earned the title of a ‘kid at heart.’ Darren pressed a soft kiss to the side of the girl’s neck before shaking his head. “I won’t, baby, I swear.”
Evan tensed when he made the comment about her living before she just hit his hand as hard as she could. “Be nice to me,” she hissed out. “And yes, I do but at least sometimes I get to have fun doing it. Plus I make more money than an extra.” It wasn’t funny but she decided to let it slide right now. “Well, you’re bound to act like one sooner or later,” smirking, she took his hand and laced her fingers with his, just laying there quietly for a bit. He promised he wouldn’t, but knowing Derek, his hands would try anyway. They had a mind of their own and it sort of reminded her of that really bad movie called Idle Hands. “So…” She cleared her throat. “One of the girls asked me if I’d mind them sleeping with you.”
Darren instinctively jerked his hand back when Evan smacked it. “I aaamm,” he whined, tightening his hold around her waist. He continued to trail his lips along the sensitive skin of her neck, yearning to acquaint his mouth with every square inch of her body. Darren knew that the girl was looking to keep things chaste at the moment though, so he forced himself to push his covets to the side for the sake of the afternoon. An embarrassingly broad grin spread across the male’s lips when he felt Evan take his hand in her own. Tracing his thumb along the tops of her knuckles, he relished in the oddly affectionate side of Evan that had decided to show itself today. Darren’s state of repose was interrupted when the brunette made her next comment, causing the boy’s entire body to twitch in shock. “What… Who said that?”
Evan tilted her head to the side a bit more at the little pecks to her neck and snickered at his whine. Poor baby. She wanted to see how long he could hold out without being his usual self. Darren may as well enjoy this moment while he could. There was no telling when she would revert back to miss stone cold bitch. Even she didn’t know. “Oh uh, Cin, she’s the blonde that walks with me sometimes. Don’t know if you’ve seen her. She’s really into heroin though.” She muttered and turned to face him, draping one arm over his waist. “She sort of wants you really, really, bad. I told her if she wanted you, to go for it. Just so I could laugh when you told her to fuck off.
Darren rubbed his palms against Evan’s hips, slightly deepening his neck kisses. After a few moments he willed himself to unlatch his lips from her neck, emitting a sigh as he rested his head down beside her’s. Darren, the little sex-crazed puppy, wasn’t exactly fantastic at holding out. It took as little as a single touch to set him off, and once someone has him going, there’s really no return. Upon hearing her description of the girl that supposedly wanted to sleep with him, Darren ran his hands over his face and groaned. “Fucking hell, why is it that the only girl that wants me has track marks that I can spot from a goddamn mile away,” he grumbled, having seen Cin accompanied by Evan on a number of occasions. Placing one of his own arms around her waist, Darren scooted even closer to the brunette before him. “The only person I want is you…” The male’s voice came out as more of a hoarse whisper than anything else. He pressed his forehead against Evan’s and gave her a tender kiss, smiling against her lips as his hand ran along her waist.
Evan was too busy laughing at his reaction to finding out who that she almost didn’t talk. “Hey, Cin is a nice girl. For the most part.” Smirking, she brought her finger up and poked his nose. “I don’t know why she wants you, but she tends to go after the guys I do, so maybe that’s why.” She didn’t get Cin but she also knew that Robert never laid a hand on her. He liked his girls without needles or anything on their arms. To give them the appearance that they were clean. Bumping her head against his after the kiss, she smirked. “But hey at least /someone/ wants you. You should feel special.” She snickered. “So what do you wanna do now?”
Darren grinned like a jackass when he saw that Evan was genuinely laughing. He wasn’t quite sure what elicited such a cheery mood from the girl, but he was ever so grateful for it. He could definitely find himself getting used to this side of the normally dismal girl, and reveled in every second she permitted him to see her at one of her higher points. “So you’re going after me?” he teased, dipping his head forward and planting kisses along her jawline. Just the mere thought of being in such close proximity to Evan gave the dark-haired boy goosebumps. Darren allowed his eyes to rake over the brunette’s delicate facial features, which were all but millimeters away from his own. “Honestly?” he replied, cocking his head to the side and running his tongue over his lips. “Fuck.”
Evan was oddly..sort of happy? It was true though. Evan rarely smiled and it was a cold day in hell when the girl laughed. She could just imagine a gleeful look on Alec’s face if he ever heard about this moment. “You’re forgetting, I’ve already had you. Numerous times, I’m not going after you. If you want to get technical, you’re already mine.” It wasn’t meant to sound sarcastic or mean, but it was the truth. Darren had said so himself by just the way he acted with her. When he said he wanted to fuck, she groaned and tapped her fingers against his lips. “Does your mind ever get off sex?” Even hers wasn’t on it that often. Unless she was fighting with him and then well, sex just sort of popped into her brain to try and show him a thing or two. Also to make him shut up since that seemed to work rather well. “Tell me about this Showtime thing.”
Darren joined the chat 25 hours ago
Darren didn’t even make an attempt to argue with Evan’s words, as he knew that they were completely and utterly true. “I am yours,” he stated without adornment, not an ounce of shame in his voice. Pulling the girl as close to him as she could get, the dark-haired boy nuzzled his head in the crook of her neck. “I just wish you were mine,” he murmured beneath his breath. Darren glanced down at her fingers with widened eyes, so horribly tempted to strip the brunette of all of her clothing and make love to her as if he were to die tomorrow. “When you’re not in the picture, yeah.” He let out a disgruntled sigh, as getting into the details of his career was about the last thing he wanted to do right now. “It revolves around the multiverse theory… y’know, the concept that there are an infinite amount of different universes? It’s based on that.” Instead of going on to elaborate about the plot line of the show, Darren returned to littering Evan’s necks with increasingly deeper kisses. “I-I love you, Evvy,” he mumbled, while sliding his hands down to grip the backs of her thighs.
Evan heard that little murmur of his and actually frowned a bit. Attempting to joke about it, she laughed. “Don’t get your hopes up too high about that one ever happening Cassanova.” Though to an extent she was his, even if she didn’t admit it. She hadn’t taken on any clients in a while now aside from Robert, which was a huge thing for her. Too bad Evan wouldn’t let Darren know that. When he seemed displeased about talking about his new possible job, she shook her head. “Hey, I’m trying to do this whole..normal conversation thing. It doesn’t sound so bad, might be something I’d watch…” she muttered as he started kissing her neck again. “I thought we agreed you weren’t going to get frisky.” He needed to stop that. Really needed to stop that.
Darren sighed when Evan responded to him and sheepishly shook his head. “I won’t,” he muttered very seriously, curling up even closer to the brunette as he spoke. As far as Darren was concerned, Evan would rather take five consecutive bullets to head than be in a committed relationship. Which, as one would imagine, did wonders for his self-esteem. The male was so enthralled by the girl’s delicate body that he didn’t even hear her speak at first. Instead of heeding her previous warnings, he continued to suck and nibble along her neck, even hovering his hands dangerously close to her breasts at one point. Darren managed to catch himself, thank god, before doing anything truly invasive. Rolling onto his back, the boy combed his fingers through his dark, stringy hair as he thought over his actions. “I-I’m sorry, Evvy,” he finally mumbled. “I-I’ll stop now, okay? P-Please don’t make me leave.”
Evan actually /couldn’t/ be in a committed relationship. Not with what she was doing as a living and even if by some miracle she went back to stripping it wasn’t as if Darren would love that either. She could never hold what someone would call a normal job. When he rolled over onto his back, she perked a brow at him. Wow, he really was trying to behave. It was nice. She snuggled up into his side, tapping her fingers on his chest. “I won’t make you leave, this time. But next time, I won’t warn you.” She snickered. “I’ll just kick you out of the bed. But..uh..you were doing good for the most part. You should be proud of yourself or something.”
Darren: In all honesty, at this point Darren wouldn’t even care if he were in a relationship with a prostitute-turned-stripper. Sure, the fact that his possible girlfriend would be constantly hit on and sexually badgered would end up driving him up a wall… But it was a compromise he was willing to make if it meant that he could call Evan his own. Darren rolled over so that he was facing the brunette and gently tugged her up against him. “Thanks,” he mumbled, draping both of his arms around her waist. “Sorry, it’s just-… You do horrible things to me, Evvy.” It was true, the boy could barely go five minutes while being in Evan’s company before getting all worked up and red in the face. He lusted for her like no other, and his uncontrollable sexual desire for the girl tended to be the slightest bit frustrating at times of rejection… like right now. “Y’know… N-Not even S-Sunny made me feel like this. Or, at least, not nearly as often that you do.” Running his fingers along her side, Darren gave Evan a soft peck on the nose. “I’m gonna be good now, baby; I promise.”
Evan would only be hit on constantly and asked for private shows if she had gone back to where she originally worked and that was never going to happen. They made it clear after that guy assaulted her on Halloween that she wasn’t welcomed. It never failed, Evan couldn’t be happy for more than a five minute time span before the universe decided to remind her that she was nothing. “Oh well if I do such horrible things to you, maybe it would be wise to not be in the same room with me.” She wasn’t rejecting him, she was just trying to have a conversation. And for once she wasn’t concerned with having sex. “Mhm, you’ll be good for a while until your hands start wandering again cause I know you by now. It’ll happen.” She smirked. “Go put a movie on lazy.”
Darren scrunched up his nose when Evan told him that it would be in his best interest to keep away from her. “No, baby,” he murmured, his palm traveling along lower back. The male cracked a smile, and snickered softly before continuing to speak. “Besides, who’s going to scream at you about your life choices and shove food down your throat if I’m gone?” She was true. No matter how hard the dark-haired boy tried to hold out, it was only a matter of time before his hormones got the best of him yet again. In that aspect, it seemed as if Darren was still going through puberty to this day. “Well… you make it really hard for me,” he retorted, then smirking. “Put a paper bag or something over your head so that it’ll be a tad easier on me, yeah?” Darren could have happily laid curled up beside Evan for the remainder of the day, so he was less than thrilled when forced to detach himself from her and put on a movie. Mumbling a string of curses beneath his breath, he pulled himself up from the bed and dug out the original Teeth movie from the living room. Darren made his way back into the spare bedroom, humming a horribly off-key tune to himself as he walked. After having stuck the disc in the TV by the foot of the bed, he flopped back down besides his ‘kinda girlfriend.’ “So… this is gonna be a really romantic movie for us to watch together. If this doesn’t put you in the mood, I don’t know what will.” he deadpanned, tugging the brunette into his lap.
Evan rolled her eyes. “Oh yes, how will I ever live without someone trying to tell me what to do,” she sighed dramatically. “I’d be so lost without you.” She was joking of course, but she figured by now Darren would know that. “A paper bag? Hmm, I can do that. Or I could just start wearing clown makeup, maybe that would make your dick stay limp.” Snickering, she watched as he got up and laughed when she heard him mumble. “Aww, baby, don’t worry it’ll be worth it I promise!” Getting tugged into his lap, she protested mildly with a huff but then looked at him. “Right, we’ll see bout that boy wonder. If it’s the Notebook or something Nicholas Sparks related? You are so going to die.” Settling down, she leaned back into him for the movie.
Darren chuckled to himself as he ran his fingers through his hair. “Y’know, you’re not the first person to tell me that,” he remarked. It was clearly sarcasm. Most people’s parting words to Darren went more along the lines of “I never want to see you again, you piece of shit.” Sunny, for one, really stuck to the pattern of virulent goodbyes. “Oh, babe. Don’t you know that I have a raging fetish for costume makeup?” he snarked. No, Darren didn’t have a thing for clowns. Blood and nearly unbearable pain? Well… that was a different story, but clowns were a big no-no. “It’s even better than either of those,” he replied, resting his chin on the brunette’s shoulder. Although Sunny had tried to get him to watch them with her countless times, the male had never once sat through an entire Nicholas Sparks film. He always ended up either passing out on the couch or trying to get in her pants… and for the most part, succeeding. “This movie might finally make you appreciate how much you lucked out with this little… relationship.” Knowing Evan, he was probably going to receive some slack for his choice of words.
Evan snickered because she was now getting to the point where she could actually figure out his humor. For once though, Evan was being nice. When she wasn’t high on coke mixed with whatever else she managed to get her hands on, she was actually pretty decent. Though she had plans to go to Jagger’s the next day and get something to aid in her not sleeping again. Especially after Darren had called her out on her little stint. “It wouldn’t surprise me if you liked clown sex. You’re a weird fuck to begin with,” she commented. There was a guy that insisted she wore a clown nose - that guy however she’d severed ties from. “Relationship? I don’t think it’s fair to use that word when you describe what we are.” She snorted and grinned when she saw the title. “Aww, it’s teeth. Let me watch this and wish I was the girl and all the damage being done is to you when you’re being a handsy little git.”
Darren wrapped his arms around the girl’s midsection, allowing his fingertips to travel along her thighs. “Oh, I do. Nothing gets me off more than a girl wearing nothing except those massive clown shoes, mmm,” he snorted. The male cocked his head to the side, furrowing his brows together as he thought over her response. “Well… How would you describe us?” His demeanor had changed, as he was now very serious about the topic at hand. “Jesus Christ…” Darren murmured beneath his breath, shaking his head. Honestly, he wouldn’t put it past Evan to take a knife to his genitals if he ever truly fucked up again… which, he probably would. The dark-haired boy shifted around a bit in his seat, trying to keep his hard-on from pressing into the brunette’s back. Considering they were watching a film that featured two castration scenes, the apparent bulge in Darren’s jeans would probably end up disappearing within the next several minutes anyway.
Evan laughed when he made the comment bout the clown shoes. “Oh so you like something bigger than your dick, duly noted. I’ll have to buy a pair of those then.” Smirking, she knew how men got so defensive over the size of their dicks. It was sad really. “Uh, I don’t know. People don’t ask me. The term relationship is like commitment and we are nowhere even near that.” Oh Darren would fuck up again, they’d fight. She’d avoid him for days and then they’d be right back to acting somewhat normal. It seemed to be their “thing”. As she watched the movie, Evan couldn’t help but snicker at the horrible script and groaned. “I really hope your script is better because this is..no.”
Darren was rather defensive over his dick, yes… mainly because without it, he was nothing more than your average over-emotional woman. “Y’know, making dick jokes isn’t gonna alleviate any insecurities you have about those mosquito bites you call boobs,” he snapped. Darren grimaced as soon as the words left his mouth, as he realized that his response came out far harsher than he had intended. “That, um, sounded a lot meaner than I meant for it to, sorry… And for the record, I like your boobs. A lot.” I am the male wanted to say, when Evan professed that neither of them were committed to one another. Instead of speaking his mind - for once - Darren merely asked, “But what would you say if someone did ask?” He wasn’t going to let this one go until the girl gave him an honest answer as to how she felt about him… either that, or he got his feelings horribly hurt. Probably the latter. “Uh… Not by much,” he admitted, burrowing his head into the brunette’s neck. “I only took the part because I was running low on money.” The male slid his arms down from Evan’s stomach to her waist, and slipped his thumbs through her belt loops. Darren was a bit obsessive when it came to cuddling and touching, to the point where his habits became annoying to some. His compulsive holding and touching arose from his fear that everyone he grew an attachment to would eventually end up leaving him, and he felt that if he was constantly clinging to said person, it would prove more difficult for them to believe. Of course, this was completely irrational, but in Darren’s mind his thought process made perfect sense. “Um… Evvy?” he murmured, after a brief period of silence. “Do you want to maybe, uh… move your stuff back into my bedroom?”
Evan turned her head to look at him when he made a comment about her breasts and shrugged. “I’m not insecure about them. Apparently my customers just /love/ them so why would I be insecure about them?” She knew her boobs were small, but she’d grown used to them a long time ago and owned them. “Doesn’t matter how big they are.” She gave a sigh at his question though, trying to focus on the movie and not the way he seemed to cling to her for dear life. Giving a small shrug, she folded her arms across her stomach. “The truth? That we sleep together sometimes.” Hoping that would suffice for an answer. “Yeah I sort of figured your money would run out sooner or later, but a job is a job am I right?” That was more a statement to what she did to make ends meet for herself. She wasn’t going anywhere yet at least, he could loosen up a little. If she wanted to be gone she would be. And no one would find her. Like that week she disappeared and no one knew where she was. She was good at doing that. When she came back though Alec nearly had a heart attack. The question about moving stuff into his room had her raise a brow. “No, my stuff’s fine in here. This is my room after all. Usually stuff belongs in one’s room?”
Darren winced when she mentioned her customers. Even though he didn’t really have the right to be, the male was horribly possessive over Evan and hated the fact that she allowed over guys to /look/ at her naked body, let alone sleep with her. “You shouldn’t be,” he concorded. Puffing out his cheeks when Evan announced what she believed was a description of their “relationship”, he gave a small nod. “O-Oh… Okay,” he murmured. Being that she meant much more to him than just someone fuck, Darren had hoped that should would provide him with a bit of a more in depth response. It was silly of him, really. He shouldn’t have expected that much of someone so emotionally guarded. “I guess. I was running on inheritance money for the last year or so, but rent in this building is just so fucking expensive… Not to mention, the motorcycle that I bought and then crashed a week later and the two carat engagement ring cleaned me out a bit as well.” Despite Evan showing no signs of wanting to leave, Darren still clung to her with all his might. The male let out an exasperated sigh when the brunette misunderstood his request. He was merely asking her to share a bed with him, yet he was nervous enough to be proposing marriage. “No, I mean like.. Do you want to stay in my room… With me?”
Evan basically just blocked out what was happening the moment she got undressed or in many a case had her clothes yanked off. The dark haired girl didn’t know what to say in response to his obvious disdain at her comment about how she viewed them. She would never call anyone her boyfriend or lover. Those were too personal of terms and meant closeness. Something she didn’t let herself be with anyone. “Yeah rent is expensive,” she muttered. “Hey if worse comes to worse, you could always move and find a cheaper place.” Giving a shrug of her shoulders, she pressed her back to his chest and then looked over at him. “Yeah, well you were stupid for buying a ring that big. Girls don’t need huge rings for you to show that they love them. Some girls would be fine with a little gold band and a tiny diamond because it suits them. Sunny isn’t the big show off kind of girl.” She sighed and looked at him, turning in his lap a little and forgetting the movie at the moment. “You mean live in your room and not in here.”
Sunny isn’t the big show off kind of girl.” She sighed and looked at him, turning in his lap a little and forgetting the movie at the moment. “You mean live in your room and not in here.”
Darren , on the other hand, had always been one to jump into things. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which left him susceptible to copious amounts of emotional distress. The male would happily make things official with Evan, but he knew that the feelings weren’t mutual in the aspect of commitment. “Maybe…” he replied, a sudden detachment in his voice. “But where would you go?” Darren was less than thrilled when the girl went on to discuss his choice in engagement ring. He didn’t mean to bring up the proposal, it was just something that idly slipped out of his mouth. In his mind, avoiding absolutely anything and everything to do with Sunny was the only possible way for him to heal. “She said that as well, but… I dunno, I just thought she’d like it. She deserved something nice, y’know?” Chomping down on his lower lip, Darren idly traced his fingertip along the mattress. He was still horribly sensitive about the failed proposal… Hell, ever drought on the face of the Earth probably could’ve been cured solely using the tears Darren shed after being told that his dearest Sunny had no intention of ever marrying him. “Doesn’t fucking matter anyway. She rejected me… several times.” The dark-haired boy forced a smile on his face, not wanting the afternoon to turn sour. “But hey, I’ll make sure to get you the tiniest diamond out there when I propose,” he jested. Darren laced his fingers through Evan’s and gave a shy nod in response to her question. “Um, yeah… Would you, uh-…. W-Would you wanna do that?”
Evan didn’t really understand why people felt the need to label things. Couldn’t two people just be together and not use some stupid term? “I don’t know, I’d find a place. I could always just stay here and make someone else’s life hell.” She snickered, though more than likely she’d wind up on the streets or taking that apartment that Robert had talked about getting her. So he could keep her for whenever he wanted. When he seemed sour about the Sunny thing, she just gave a shrug. “Sorry, forgot how much it still hurts.” She was actually genuinely sorry and then perked a brow when he mentioned a ring for her. “You get me a ring and hell would like freeze over. I’m not the girl that guys buy rings for.” She laughed because to her it was just a strange concept. “I don’t know. I’ll think about it. It’s sort of this huge thing.”
Darren shook his head at the idea. “Whatever… I’m not moving out anyway, so we don’t need to worry about it.” He was somewhat taken aback by Evan’s sudden show of genuine empathy, and sat in silence while he digested this newfound revelation. “It’s-… It’s alright. I’m just being a little bitch about the whole thing.” Darren turned the brunette by the waist so that she was now facing him, and gently pressed his lips to hers. “Yeah? You’ve got time. I’m sure some guy’ll buy you a ring someday.” He earnestly wasn’t speaking for himself at this point. Darren may have been more than ready to get into an exclusive relationship with Evan, but marriage? Well.. that was a completely different story. “How so? We already live in the same apartment?” The dark-haired boy took a deep breath, as he realized that if he pushed too much, he could risk losing Evan yet again. “I mean… You don’t have to if you don’t want to, of course. I just… I dunno, call me a needy little fuck, but I like having someone to hold at night.”
Evan shrugged “Alright, just saying if you’re really strapped for cash moving out might be the best option. That way you don’t have late fees and whatever else. Unless you get this Showtime gig then hey that might be good for you.” Wasn’t going to comment on the him being a bitch thing cause honestly, he was being one but she was also trying to cut him some slack. Wrinkling her nose when he said some guy would buy her a ring someday, she laughed. “Yeah, right. Not likely.” She patted his head before giving a sigh and looking up at the ceiling. “Yeah but there’s a difference between sharing a bedroom and sharing a place. You are a needy fuck, but hey at least you admit it!” She gave a grin and gave him a light peck on the nose. Though I could always just come and cuddle until you fall asleep.”
Darren rested his head in his hands, not even wanting to consider the prospect of being forced to move out. “Yeah, hopefully that all works out.” The dark-haired boy wrapped his arms around Evan’s waist and toppeled her down onto the mattress. “Don’t be so hard on yourself, baby,” he crooned, planting gentle kisses up and down her neck. “You’re amazing; any guy would be lucky to have you.” Darren was so captivated by the girl in his arms that he had managed to tune out the shrieks and cries emitting from the TV. Grasping her hands in his, he pulled the two of them back up into an erect position. “If you’re going to do that, you might as well just stay…” he goaded, tracing his fingers along her inner-palm.
Evan knew that if worst came to worse she could survive. She wasn’t so sure about Darren. Looking up at him she groaned. “Sorry to say, one guy already sort of actually does have me. And he’s an annoying, pain in the ass jerk that likes to hold me like I’ll disappear if he lets me go.” Oh she heard the screams and knew exactly what must have been going on. Which was affirmed when they sat up and she looked at the television. “Fine, whatever, I’ll stay with you.” Looking at the television again, just in time to see the teeth do their handy work, she grinned and started placing kisses down his neck. “This movie isn’t so bad, better than porn. That shit just makes me want to make my own.”
Darren grinned from ear to ear upon hearing Evan’s response. His face was that of an overly-giddy toddler on Christmas morning. “I love you so much,” he chirped, voice dripping with exuberance. Curling his arms around her waist, the dark-haired boy gazed down at Evan with ebullient eyes. “You make me so damn happy.” Darren couldn’t believe how drastic of a mood change Evan seemed to have went through this morning. The male emitted a low groan when Evan’s lips connected with the skin of his neck, and allowed his head to rest against her shoulder. He didn’t even realize what scene the film had progressed to until the brunette commented on it, and he glanced over at the television. “Mmm… So how about I go dig up a porno and we can do just that?” he teased, slipping his hands down into her back pockets.
Evan was just going through a somewhat good day. It was to the point she was just going to let him say whatever he wanted without any sort of fight. She couldn’t imagine how she made him happy though - she was quite certain that she made him miserable. It wasn’t something she was used to. Making someone happy. Sure, the guys got off and they were happy for about five seconds but that was different. Someone smiling at her and treating her with some sort of respect? Total foreign concept. Continuing the kisses along his neck, she laughed when he suggested they go watch porn. “You’re not getting in my pants today Darren. Deal.”
Darren let out a noise that could be best described as a purr. The male had always tended to be rather… vocal when it came to intimacy. At times, even moreso than his female counterparts. “Baaabe,” he drawled into her ear, face reddened with lust. Despite the castration scene that had just been shown on the television, Darren still managed to done a rather large hard-on. The dark-haired boy ran his clammy hands over his face before reluctantly nodding. “Alright…” he groaned. Darren curled up next to the girl and forced himself to concentrate on anything but Evan’s delectable curves.
Evan snickered at the way he made those noises every time that something happened between them. Oh she knew he was hot and bothered already as it was and she didn’t intend on helping him cool down either. Evan found it funny that he still managed to get turned on despite what was going on. Taking a moment while she saw the credits rolling, she sat up and stretched. Looking over her shoulder at Darren, she rifled out a tank top from her bag of clothes and laughed. “You’re sort of cute when you’re all flustered and horny.” Slipping her shirt off, she tossed it into a pile near the one side of the wall and pulled her hair up into a ponytail. Just to be a bitch, she took her time with staying topless, shaking the tank top to unravel it from it’s little ball state. “So what movie now?”
Darren rolled over onto his back and stared up at the ceiling, allowing one of his arms to drape over her torso. “I’m glad that you take pleasure out of my suffering,” he scoffed, clicking his tongue at the girl. Darren may not have been the most successful actor in the world, but he sure as hell was as over-dramatic as the best of them. Following after Evan and sitting up, the male’s eyes nearly bulged out of his head when she stripped herself of her shirt. “Oh fucking hell… E-Evvy!” he whined, jeans tightening so quickly that it was a wonder he didn’t burst right out of them. Darren sprung out of his seat and scurried over to the brunette, wrapping his arms around her bare midsection from behind and beginning to plant fervent kisses along her neck and shoulders. “P-Please, Evvy… God, you’re so fucking sexy…”
Evan gave a soft snicker at the male and shrugged. “Hey, I called you cute that should count for something bonehead.” When she heard the whining, she looked back at him innocently. “What? I’m not doing anything. I’m changing shirts.” When his arms wrapped around her, she smirked slightly and tsked him. “Darren, stop that. Control your hormones alright?” Pecking his cheek lightly, Evan tried to pry his arms from around her. “Let me get my shirt on now.” Looking down, her smirk just grew wider. “And maybe you should go take a cold shower.”
Darren rolled his eyes. “Thank you /so/ much, my dear,” he sneered. Pouting, the male balled his hands up into fists and groaned. “No, you’re teasing me,” he insisted. Darren allowed his hands to roam along Evan’s naked torso while continuing to drag his lips against her neck. “Y-You make it so hard for me.” The dark-haired boy became so worked up that he could barely manage to get his words out. God, he was an easy target. “P-Please let me h-have you, Evvy… I-I’ll leave you alone for the r-rest of the week, I swear.” Darren’s hips ground against Evan’s as he panted his words out into her neck.
Evan sighed. “You’re welcome. And I am not teasing you. Jesus Christ,” she snapped at him a bit and dragged herself away from him and tugged her tank top on. “Darren, stop. Look at me. You want,” she paused and tried to find the right words before taking a deep breath. “If you want this relationship to work? You’re going to respect me when I say no. You can’t keep acting like a horny teenager with me the moment I take my top off. I don’t want to have sex Darren. I’m sorry that’s some big fucking shocker to you considering.” Stopping, she looked at him. “So if you can’t behave, just..get out of my room.”
Darren chomped down on his lower lip when Evan tore herself away from him, a look of genuine disappointment with himself on his face. It was at moments like these that the boy truly hated himself. The last thing in the world he wanted was to upset Evan, yet he wound up doing it on a regular basis. Darren never meant to cause the girl any harm, as he didn’t realize that he was crossing proper boundaries until after the deed was done. “I-… W-Wait, we’re in a relationship?” He was confused with her choice of words, as she had reprimanded him for saying the same thing earlier. “I-I’m so sorry, Evvy… I-I’ll stop, okay? I p-promise… W-We were having s-such a good time, I didn’t mean to r-ruin it all.” The male trudged away from her and sat back down on the edge of the bed, hanging his head in shame.
Evan shrugged. “We’re in a relationship of sorts. To some extent I guess, but I am not your girlfriend so don’t get ahead of yourself. You view this as a relationship so I’m willing to admit it half way until you piss me off and do something stupid. Like you just did.” She muttered and ran her fingers through her hair. “We were having a decent time, yeah and then you just had to let your dick go and do the thinking for you again.” Frowning a bit she moved back to the bed and curled up on her side of the bed. “You can lay with me, if you want but do not make a move to feel me up or this is over.”
Darren ’s knee was jiggling a mile a minute as Evan told him how she viewed the two of them. “I won’t do anymore stupid things.” Surely, there was no way in hell the boy would be able to stick his word. He would try, yes, but trying was all he ever did. And his attempts to be a good guy and maintain healthy relationships rarely ever paid off for him. “I’m s-sorry… I d-didn’t realize that I was u-upsetting you.” The male turned his body to face Evan when she curled up on the bed. “Um… D-Do you want me to? Because I won’t unless you want me to.”
Evan looked over at him when he turned and frowned. “It’s fine, just shush.” Reaching up, she dragged him down up behind her. “I’m fine with it. If I wasn’t then I wouldn’t asking you too. Thought you would have figured that much out by now when it came to me.” Turning, she faced him and just placed her hand on his cheek. “Look, Darren. I’m only going to say this once while I’m in a good mood. I am giving you a chance. I don’t give people chances to possibly, much later down the line, be involved in my life for more than a quick fuck. If you screw this up, then it’s on you. So don’t fuck this up. Got it?”
Darren allowed Evan to pull him down beside her, and slipped one of his shaky hands through hers. “What makes me special?” He earnestly had no idea why the girl found herself even somewhat drawn to him. He had done nothing but hurt her, time and time again. “I-I get it… I /do/ wanna be involved in your life, so badly. I w-won’t fuck things up.. You deserve the b-best, baby.” Nudging her gently with his nose, Darren one of his calves around Evan’s. “Don’t take this the wrong way, Evvy, but, um… You should stay sober more often. You’re at least somewhat happy for once, yeah? It’s.. nice to see you like that.”b
Evan thought how to answer that question, trying to carefully choose her words. “Because you’re broken too,” she muttered. “But like I said, don’t read too much ito things. Just because we’re both broken and have something in common in that respect doesn’t mean that we can fix each other or anything romantic like that. You actually suck around so that says something for your stubborn ass.” When he mentioned staying sober more often, she shook her head. “Not going to happen Darren, I don’t like being sober.”
Darren scooted as close to Evan as physically possible. Bringing his hand up to cup her face, he tugged the brunette into a soft kiss. His lips didn’t move with the same appetite as they did earlier. The kiss was more chaste than anything, as if Darren wanted to do nothing more than taste Evan’s lips against his. The boy completely understood where Evan was coming from in the respect that it was nice to be with someone who was just as broken as you were. It made you feel normalized, in a sense. “Y’know when I first started to fall for you?” he reminisced, giving her hand a light squeeze. “That one night after we first got hammered together and we were about to fuck and then, well… We never did, ‘cause we showed each other our scars and it just… felt so fucking great to finally meet someone who understood, y’know?” Snickering at her remark, he couldn’t help but nod. “I know, I’m a freaking leech.” Of course getting Evan to ween off of drugs wouldn’t be that easy. But for some odd reason, Darren felt like he’d be able to sway her in the right direction. Silly boy. “I’m not gonna push it, but besides the shit I pulled before, weren’t you having a good time today? And you’re sober..”
Evan was fearing that he would take it into this big emotional romantic gesture and she was partially right. He did take it to a bit of an extreme but that was Darren. She had started to realize that. “Wow, I deny you sex and you started falling for me. That’s a new one. Usually I have to open my legs for people to like me.” It was sarcasm, it’s what she did best to try and deflect the moment to humor. “Yeah, well, my scars are me. They tell a story all by themselves, people just never hear the stories behind them and they never will. I have to have something that the whole world doesn’t know. And yes, you are a leech god damn it. And sometimes annoying.” Evan would never give up drugs. Or alcohol because they made her life easier. “I’m having an okay day, not going to call it great because you ruined that.”
Darren knew that Evan wouldn’t be one to address what he had said head-on. He figured that making a joke out of the situation was a far better outcome than getting yelled at for his feelings, so he didn’t object to her deflections. “I would wanna hear your story one day, if you would allow me.” Dipping his head down to meet her wrist, the boy placed his lips to several of the raised lines that littered her skin. “I’d just listen, baby. Y’know, it might feel good to get some of that stuff off your chest?” Darren would kill to get Evan to open up to him about her past. He knew that it would most likely take time before she’d ever be able to consider doing such a thing, but he would be here waiting to listen once she was ready. “I’m sorry ‘bout that, Evvy. I just.. have trouble controlling myself around you.” The male sat up on the mattress and dug a carton of cigarettes out of his back pocket. Darren didn’t smoke nearly as much as most smokers did. It was merely a nervous habit that he had picked up a couple of months ago. “D’you want?” he offered, placing a cigarette between his teeth as he rummaged through his pockets for a lighter.
Evan watched as his lips connected with her skin, eyes closing before she snapped them over. “Get what off my chest? Talk about my parents or something? No. It’s never going to happen. I don’t want to talk about my past or what got me here. I did that once. It just got thrown back in my face and I’m never doing it again.” It hurt when Mitch had tossed things back at her and opening up to someone wasn’t something she actually wanted to do ever again. The only one that knew her back story was Alec and even he didn’t know all of it. “You have to learn yourself to control yourself Darren.” Seeing the cigarettes, she just got a flash of Robert smoking after one of their meetups and she forced a shaky smile. “No thanks.”
Darren began to kiss along her other wrist before she snapped at him, and he immediately retracted his head from her scars. “I w-would never do that to you, Evvy… But if you don’t wanna talk about it, I’m not going to push it.” As he nodded, a wave of shame washed over the male. He was twenty-four for god’s sake, and he couldn’t even manage to sit still around a topless Evan. His constant horniness was pathetic, really. “I know.. I started with a new shrink the other day? So hopefully this one isn’t as fucking stupid as the last and can actually help me work through some of my shit.” Darren had been to more therapists than he could count of his two hands. Starting at the ripe age of six, he couldn’t remember the last time he had been without a psychologist since then. Lighting the cigarette with trembling hands, he took a deep inhale before releasing a steady stream of smoke into the bedroom. “Is everything alright?” he asked, upon seeing the shaky expression on her face. Darren stretched his free arm out to take hold of Evan’s hand, giving it a consoling squeeze.
Evan muttered. “Sorry,” about snapping at him. It still hurt and she couldn’t even mask that it did. She was tough as nails all the time. Or at least that’s what everyone thought. “Oh, new shrink? That’s..good. Maybe you will get better. Or whatever better even means.” She tilted her head. “I never saw the point in going to one but hey, if it’ll help you control that dick of yours? I’m all for it.” She smirked and then nodded when he asked if she was alright. “Yeah I’m good, just tired I guess. Still. Despite the fact that I slept like fourteen hours.”
Darren ran his hand along the brunette’s back and gave her a light peck on the cheek. “You sleep as much as you have to, baby. Nothing’s gonna happen if you take the next few days off of work.” The male leaned back against the wall, taking another drag from his cigarette. “Shrinks? Yeah, the majority of ‘em are all full of shit. I probably wouldn’t even be going to one if my bastard of a father hadn’t sent me to therapy from the age of six. It’s just kinda become force of habit since then.” Allowing his cigarette to hang dangerously close to the bedsheets, Darren contemplated whether or not he should halt the conversation in its tracks, or continue on to discuss the unsavory topic. Being that the boy was never particularly good at filtering what came out of his mouth, he decided to stick with the latter. “Y’see my dad… My dad was /always/ looking out for my best interests,” he sneered, shaking his head. “Nah… I was the biggest fucking disappointment in the world in his eyes. E-Even my-…. My l-little sister who h-hung herself in her closet when she was f-fifteen was c-considered more successful than me… Micha-… My dad was a man’s man, y’know? And he wanted a son to follow in his footsteps. But I mean… come on,” he paused for a moment, motioning to himself. “I’m the biggest fucking pansy out there… I think he finally realized that I was just as good as dead when he first took me hunting with him when I was ‘round eight or nine? - Yeah, I think it was eight- Anyway, we were hunting for ducks. It was a perfectly normally father son thing to do, y’know? ‘Specially around where I grew up. So I-… I finally hit my first one after a little while, and I walk over to it to pick it up and I just… started balling my fucking eyes out. It never really hit me that I was actually gonna be /killing/ the goddamn thing, I just thought of it as a game of sorts… And I look at it lying there so still and I c-couldn’t believe that I’d d-do something like that to another living thing. It… seemed like brutality to me at the time, y’know?” Once the boy’s cigarette had died out, he pulled another out of the carton and lit it in his trembling hands. These were personal memories that he hadn’t touched in ages… and here he was, spilling them all out to a girl that probably couldn’t care less. “T-They say that no m-matter what you do, your parents will a-always find it in their heart to love you and forgive you… T-That just… wasn’t the case with my dad. The man fucking hated my guts. Everytime I’d cry or ‘act like a pussy’, as he put it, he’d lock me up in the closet to think about what I’d did… ‘Course, that would only end up making me cry more… He’d tell me ‘Be a goddamn man for once in your life, Darren. Men never cry’… S-So what is it that makes one a true man? A g-guy that’ll sit emotionless when his own g-goddamn father tells him that he’s a waste of space? Someone who’ll turn his head when h-his mother’s diagnosed with l-lung cancer… A-And’ll keep a calm demeanor when his-… His s-sister is driven to s-s-suicide ‘cause she feels death would be k-kinder than being f-forced to deal with all the c-constant harassment she got for…f-for being open a-about her sexuality? B-Because if so you can count me the fuck out. I’d rather be the b-biggest pussy on the face of this earth t-than a steel-hearted jackass.” At this point, Darren had all but forgotten that Evan was sitting beside him. He was speaking not to inform her about his past, but to get all of these painful memories off of his chest for the first time in ages.
Darren: “A-And as you can imagine, getting called a freak and a twitchy little shit in school does fucking wonders for a kid who’s already a-abused the shit out of at home… I had my f-first girlfriend when I was in my junior y-year. A blonde, popular, cheerleader typa girl. Hell, did I think I l-lucked out at the time. We w-went out for like t-three months before we ended up screwing. She was my first, I was probably her fifteenth. After we’d finished fucking I st-started getting all sappy on her, a-as I do, and w-wanted to spend the night and cuddle… Well, she didn’t take very k-kindly to that. Told me that I was acting like a pathetic little bitch and t-that the only reason she have me the t-time of day was that ‘cause I had a reputation for being s-such a freak she figured I’d be real good in bed. So… th-that was real nice.” Darren’s face had turned an utterly bright shade of red, and tears were beginning to press at the corners of his eyes. He made no attempt to stifle them. If Evan had managed to sit idle while he delved into the darkest corners of his past, shedding a few tears surely wouldn’t scare her off
Darren: “But b-back to the dick thing… Sometimes I don’t even understand w-why the fuck I was given one, c-considering it’s the only /manly/ thing about me… I-I hate the fact that I get horny a-all the time, I honestly do… Y’know, there’ll be those times where I put on a sh-show and try to be all d-dominant for a girl to impress her… But fucking hell, that’s just not me, Evvy. You can humiliate me and tie me up and call me your puppy and do all that sick shit… but the sickest part of all is that I’ll fucking enjoy it. I can’t help it, but all I can think of when I see you is how bad I want you to throw me down and ride me like you fucking own me… ‘Cause you do, y’know? Whether you want to or not… Maybe I should start wearing condoms, now that I think about it. I impregnated Sunny a long ass time ago. Of course she didn’t tell me it was mine until … until months after she l-lost the b-baby.. If there’s a God, he sure has a fucking funny sense of humor. I’m a woman in n-nearly every sense of the word, but I’ve got enough testosterone in me to fuel twelve goddamn sex changes… And the shrinks? I tell all this to ‘em and they never do jackshit. I tell them that I f-fucking hate myself, they say ‘Oh boy, that sounds real sad. How about we put you on some anti-depressants?’ I… I t-tell them that my own… m-my own… My own g-goddamn cousin b-bent me over and f-fucked me up the a-ass and-… and I l-liked it… They ask me h-how that makes me feel… H-How the fuck d-does that m-make me feel?! M-Makes me feel like I’m a s-sick fuck who’d do everyone a g-great fucking favor by dropping dead, th-that’s how it makes me feel!” Eyes reddened, cheeks dampened, and hands shaking, Darren emitted a deep heaving sob upon realizing what he had just allowed to slip from his tongue. He feverishly ran his hand through his hair and allowed his eyes to scan the room, desperately searching for some sign that everything would be okay. He found no such thing. “I’m gonna-… I’m gonna go p-put this o-out,” he stammered, and made a run for the living room, cigarette in hand.
Darren ’s surroundings melted into a hectic blur as he sprinted into the kitchen, nearly tripping over his own feet. If Evan were speaking or making an attempt to come after him, he couldn’t hear her over the sound of the high-frequency pounding that erupted throughout his head. The boy felt as if someone had taken a jackhammer to his skull. Lifting up his quavering wrist, Darren pressed the butt of his cigarette into his skin. At least he stuck to his word about putting it out. He desperately tore the kitchen drawer open, withdrawing a knife that he had sliced across his skin plenty a times - both accidentally, when attempting to prepare a meal to no avail, and purposely, while in an impulsive frenzy similar to the one he was experiencing now. After slumping down against the cabinets, Darren recklessly slashed the blade across his wrist, creating new scars and reopening old ones as he whimpered out from the pain. He cut to punish himself, for over-sharing, for letting his teenage cognate hormones get the best of him, and most of all, for leading a life of sheer chagrin. As much as Darren hurt himself for self-sanction, a small part of him was seeking alleviation through his destructive behaviors. A sense of relief that, after almost eleven years of littering his body with scars and burn marks, he was never able to find.
Evan listened to Darren as he told the story and got into what happened. How his father treated him and she swallowed. She didn’t know her real parents but she knew they couldn’t be worth much. They had left her on the church’s steps and then she went into the system. Then as he carried on about the blonde girl he’d slept with, her eyes narrowed protectively about the entire situation. She didn’t know why she felt so damn protective all of a sudden but really she just wanted to hug him that moment. Then came the talk about Sunny and the baby and she felt tears sting her eyes. Thankfully the brunette was able to blink them back because crying never solved anything in her case. The talk about his cousin angered her and grossed her out to be honest but she just tried to block that out. It wasn’t fair that his cousin had probably taken advantage of a situation, she knew now that Darren got into those weird moods where he didn’t really care what he was doing or even know what he was doing. Like that night she’d walked out on him after he said that the razor blade was the only thing that she needed. He was right of course, but he still said it when he wasn’t himself. Following after him once he rushed from the room, Evan sighed when she saw him press the cigarette to his flesh, her nose wrinkling at the smell of the burning flesh. Once the knife came out though, her body froze and she watched him. That moment was when she saw a lot of herself in him, the part where she tried to make everything disappear and forget; the thing that made her feel better even if it was only for a little while. She snapped out of that illusion though rather quickly once she saw the blood start to trickle from the cuts, walking over and grabbing the knife from his hand before she tossed it in the sink. “Stop,” she said simply and grabbed the kitchen towel, wrapping it around his wounds before she grabbed his face in her hands. “Listen to me. You’re not sick. You might be fucked up but you’re not sick. Everyone has weird kinks and shit, it’s just life. I’m sorry that your dad treated you like that and that it made you start doing this.” She motioned with her head to his wrist. “You can’t let your fucking father’s words control you Darren. So you cry. Big fucking deal, it means you have emotions. That doesn’t make you a pussy alright?” Dropping her hands she just checked the towel and sighed before pressing him up against the wall. “Don’t you fucking dare try to die on me tonight.” She muttered before crashing her lips against his. “Not tonight.”
Darren quizzically stared down at the towel wrapped around his wrist. He was so caught up in his own melodramatics that he didn’t even see it being placed there. Evan’s attempts to console the male only made him sob even harder, as he knew that he didn’t deserve them in the slightest. “H-He told me th-that-… Th-That we w-weren’t related,” he stammered, not yet digesting what the brunette had said. When he glanced down at his bloodied arms, a look of pure shame washed over Darren. The only person that had ever watched him cut before was Sunny, and he felt uncomfortable when even /she/ had seen his acts of self-destruction. “Y-You don’t cry… You’re st-strong, Evvy.” The male stood perfectly still, eyes wide open, when the brunette pushed him up against the wall and kissed him. “I-I’m going to end up h-hurting you… I d-don’t mean to, but it a-always happens.” Darren’s train of thought had shifted from begging Evan to stay to warning her of the inevitable consequences if she did as such. As much as he needed her, he didn’t want to end up screwing her over even more over time. “I’m a b-bad person, Evan… You-…You n-need to know th-that.”
Evan just wasn’t used to people crying around her. She wasn’t that great at consoling people. She lacked the better part of her that could say the right things and hold people in the right way that would give them comfort. “I don’t cry because I don’t like to. Doesn’t mean I’m strong jack ass.” She frowned and stepped back, bringing her hand out to cinch around the one with the towel around it. Ruin her more than she already was? Fat chance of that happening. Evan was already beyond messed up but no one actually believed that. They all thought she was fixable in some way if she’d just stop whoring or stop the drugs or even give up drinking. None of that made her who she was. “You’re a bad person and I’m a whore, I’m a big girl. I can handle getting hurt. You wouldn’t be the first person and you definitely won’t be the last. Did you spill that whole story because you thought somehow it would make me just leave so you didn’t eventually stomp on my heart like it was a bug? Cause sorry, it didn’t work.”
Darren gazed down at brunette, lip quivering. “B-But you are strong. You’re o-one of the strongest people I’ve e-ever met.” As broken as Evan was, as much as she resorted to substances to soothe her pain, Darren truly did admire the fact that she managed to will herself to get up out of bed each day, considering all she had been through. “You’re not a whore!” the male snapped, his voice echoing throughout the apartment. He cringed after speaking, as his comment came out much louder than he had intended. “You fuck a lotta people, sure… b-but don’t r-refer to y-yourself like that. You’re Evan.” Darren shook his head. He honestly had no ulterior motive behind telling his story to Evan. Once the words started flying out of his mouth, he just couldn’t bring himself to stop them. Stumbling forward, the dark-haired boy threw his arms around Evan and whimpered into the crook of her shoulder. He had so much pain, and try as he may, he couldn’t keep it under lock and key. “I-I’m sorry.. I’m sorry… P-Please don’t h-hate me, Evvy; you’re the o-only friend I have.”
Evan jumped a bit when he snapped but cleared her throat. Sometimes Darren could actually scare the living shit out of her. This was one of those times. “Uh, alright. Just calm down. damn.” Blinkin a moment, she wrapped her arms back around him and patted his back. It was the best she could do right now as far as trying to calm him went. “Don’t hate you, sure you annoy the ever living fuck out of me but uh, hate would be a strong word there. I only hate a few people. You haven’t made that lucky list just yet.” She was trying be humorous, hoping it came off as such. “Come on, let’s get that arm cleaned up alright? You’ll never get a security deposit back if you stain the floor with blood..”
Darren tightened his grip around the brunette’s torso, to the point that he probably wasn’t far from cutting off her circulation. “Don’t be so hard on yourself, Evvy… Please,” he murmured into her neck. Although Evan’s attempts to console him were rather pitiful, Darren still took immense solace out of the fact that she was staying with him whatsoever. Most would have left him after his small psychotic break. It took true guts to stand by someone as wildly unstable as he was. “Oh… Do you-” The boy began, but halted mid-sentence. He realized that Evan was uncomfortable enough as it was, and asking that question would only result in her becoming even more uneasy. Nodding, Darren released his grip on the girl’s torso and slipped one of his hands through hers. He remained still, however, and looked down at her like a puppy waiting for his owner to take him on a walk.
Evan honestly couldn’t breath, but she was trying her best to do so. The tight grip he had on her though made it damn near impossible. Sure, Evan could have ditched him and went on her way but for some reason she stuck around. Maybe it was the talk with Sunny that night that made her do it. “Do I what?” She looked up at him before leading him back into the bedroom. Getting the first aid kit out, she opened the peroxide and just poured it over the cuts without warning him. “Sunny and I have something in common,” she started, dabbing the wounds with some gauze. “We both lost a baby.” Evan didn’t look up, she focused on the cuts, dousing them with more of the clear liquid to make sure that it didn’t get infected before she started looking through the stuff for some of the wrapping gauze and tape.
Darren darted his eyes down towards the ground. “Nothing,” he replied, almost immediately after the question had left Evan’s mouth. The dark-haired boy trailed her into the bedroom, squeezing her hand as he walked. He sat on the edge of the bed and watched as the girl dug out the first aid kit, wincingwhen the liquid was suddenly doused onto his skin, Darren chomped down on his lower lip as means of dulling the pain. His gaze snapped upwards at the mention of Sunny. The next sentence that Evan uttered was one that Darren wasn’t expecting in the slightest. “O-Oh my-” he choked out. Darren couldn’t fathom how Evan could mention such a huge thing in such a casual manner. He honestly had no idea what to say or do at the moment, so he just reached out and placed his free hand on her shoulder, glancing up at her with apologetic eyes. “E-Evvy,” he murmured, running his palm along her arm. “W-When, uh… W-When did that h-happen?l
Evan found the tape that she needed and just continued to work, falling quiet for a few minutes. To her it was casual, it happened. It’s not like she could rewind time and change it. “Uh, I was seventeen?” She shrugged. “I was pregnant before my birthday, I remember cause we stole this stupid generic hostess thing from the store. But yeah, I was seventeen when I lost it.” Pressing the padding down on his wounds, Evan broke pieces of tape to make sure they stayed. “Don’t look at me like that okay? The kid is better off wherever souls go.” Finishing up, she closed the first aid kit and shoved it to the side. “There. All fixed.” Shoving her hair back out of her face with her one hand, Evan moved away from Darren. “I’ll go clean up the kitchen, you stay here.”
Darren chewed on the inside of his cheek as she bandaged him up. There wasn’t really anything he could tell her that would improve the quality of the situation, but the boy felt like he had to say /something/. After a few minutes of anxious brain-wracking, he finally settled on a shaky, “Y-You’d be a good mother, y’know.” Murmuring a thank you, Darren lifted up his wrist to examine the bandaging. Evan did far better of a job than he could ever muster. The male usually didn’t even bother to clean his cuts, as he’d normally just wind up passing out after getting the urge out. “I can just come,” he mumbled, pulling himself up from the mattress with his left, unscathed arm.
Evan stopped mid step when she heard him on how she’d be a good mother. Standing there for a moment,s he shook her head. “No, I’d be one of those mothers that get their kids taken from them or screw up their entire lives. Why would I ever put someone through that?” Evan’s been bandaging up wounds for years now, it better be good. She even learned how to stitch pretty well too. Moving into the kitchen, she grabbed a sponge and knelt down on the ground to clean the blood off the tile. “At least it was on tile and not carpet, that’s a plus huh?” Trying to deflect the conversation off of her as she sighed. She didn’t want to talk about her past, it was too fucked up. And really there was no point in spilling her guys.
Darren thought over Evan’s response for a few moments before replying. “Not necessarily,” he disputed, idly rubbing the back of his neck. “That could very well happen, yeah… B-But if you made an effort to.. get better, you’d be really nurturing and supportive and all those good qualities that parents should have.” Darren trailed after the brunette as she began to make her way into the kitchen, remaining completely silent as he walked. The dark-haired boy let out a rather embarrassing snort when Evan commended him for refraining from dripping any blood on the carpet. “Oh, of course. I couldn’t be more proud of myself after this whole fucking.. ordeal.” Several minutes passed by before Darren realized that it was probably rude as hell of him to stand there cracking jokes while she was on her hands and knees scrubbing up his blood. “Shit… I should probably help you out with that, right?” he murmured. Grabbing a roll of paper towels, Darren dropped to the ground and attempted to wipe up the crimson liquid, although he just ended up spreading the blood around and making even more of a mess than was already created.
Evan didn’t want to hear that she’d be a good mother. What happened obviously happened for a reason. Though getting the shit kicked out of you just because you wouldn’t move from your spot under the bridge wasn’t exactly a good reason to lose a child over. “I know it sucks opening up, but what’s done is done. I won’t tell anyone. Not like anyone around here talks to me because I despise them all anyway.” Shrugging as she kept dabbing it up with the towel, she watched him and then started laughing. “No Darren, stop. You’re just getting it into the cracks and the foundation. Blot it up like I am.” Pushing her hair back again, the brunette continued to work. “You are done being a complete mess tonight though right?”
Darren pressed his face into the back of Evan’s neck and slung his arm around her waist. “You’re amazing, alright baby?” he murmured into her skin, trailing her fingers along her spine. “And… one day you’re going to be a f-fantastic mother, okay? I wouldn’t say that if it w-weren’t true.” News of Evan having lost her child brought up memories of when Sunny had a miscarriage of her own, which absolute killed him, even before finding out that he was the father. “Alright, um… thanks.” The last thing he wanted right now was to dwell on the topic. The boy snickered when he realized that he was creating an even bigger mess. “So, is wiping up blood together a usual couple’s activity, or is that just us?” he joked, making an effort to clean up the floor as best as he could. Darren didn’t give his mention of them being a couple a second thought, as to him, that’s what they were. “I-I think so… I’ll try.” Leaning back against the wall, Darren ran his hands through his hair and shook his head at his own behavior. “I’m sorry, Evvy.. I made things weird, didn’t I? I w-wasn’t trying to do that at all.”
Evan shrugged it all off, she didn’t believe she was amazing and never would. “See, I’d thank you? But I don’t really give a fuck what any of these bitches in this place think of me. Most of them are rich bitches that have too much time on their hands and have more stupid drama than I do.” It was the truth though, seemed everyone had some sort of love triangle going on. “Oh, it should be in every couples relationship. Unfortunately I think it’s just an us thing.” Oddly she didn’t snap at him for the couple comment. Finishing it up, she sprayed the floor with some lysol and did a quick wipe over. Moving to the trash can, she tossed everything in before looking at him. “You really did, I mean hey, I didn’t expect tonight to be filled with you sharing your deepest, darkest secrets.” It was meant as a joke but who knows with them honestly. Anything could set the other off at the drop of a pin.
Darren pressed a soft kiss to her cheek before retracting his head. “Well, if we’re going to be a.. thing, that’s just something you’re gonna have to get used to hearing,” he mused. A goofy grin spread across the male’s face when Evan continued on to refer to them as in a relationship, and he gave her hand a mirthful squeeze. Darren pulled himself up from the ground when the mess was fully cleaned up. “Yeah, me either,” he grumbled, mentally kicking himself for his lack of a verbal filter. After gazing at the girl before him for quite some time, the dark-haired boy staggered forward and pulled Evan into yet another tight embrace, burrowing his head in the nape of her neck. He immediately tore himself away from her when he felt himself getting choked up and stiffened his arms up against his side. Things were awkward enough between them as it was, the last thing they needed was for him to burst into another crying fit. “I, um… S-Sorry.” Darren’s hands found themselves at his pockets as he pointed his head downward. “So, uh… What now?”
Evan rolled her eyes when he apologized again and just held her hand up. “Stop apologizing. You talked. It’s not like you backhanded me across the face.” Moving to the side, she stepped around him and started back to her room. “Now? We lay down and try to sleep because you need it. I think. I don’t know. I’ll just chill while you lay there or whatever since I’m not going back to bed.” Stretching, she jumped onto the bed and waited for him to appear. She wasn’t going to talk anymore about his confessions tonight or probably any other night because it made her uncomfortable “Unless there’s something you want to do?”
Darren gave a shy nod, anxiously gnawing on his lower lip. The boy trailed Evan back to her room without a word, as much as he may have liked to direct her into his own room. “Alright. Uh, I can’t think of anything. I-I’m happy as long as you’re here.” Darren shed his clothes until he was left with only his boxers, and plunked down onto the mattress. Even the male’s usually ridiculously high sex drive had left him at this point. After having such an emotionally draining afternoon, the only thing he had ample enough energy left to do was wrap his arms around Evan until he inadvertently cracked a few ribs. Curling up behind the girl, Darren cinched one of his arms around her hips and ran his free hand along her forearm. “Evvy…” he mumbled, probably about to regret his next question. “Evvy.. D-Do you love me?”
Evan cringed when he wrapped his arm back around her since she was still hurting a bit from the last week but she tried not to show that she was in any pain. If this is what it took to calm his ass down and make him sleep, then so be it. She knew what it was like to emotionally exhausted and not wanting to do anything but curl up into a ball. His question made her freeze though and also stop breathing before she cleared her throat. “Uh..look, I don’t fall in love. I told you that so I’m sorry, but no. I don’t. And uh, yeah. I’ve never been in love and won’t ever be.”
Darren scrunched his face up to keep from sobbing into his pillow when she answered him, which was what he really wanted to do at the moment. “Alright. I-I just… w-w-wanted to kn-know.” The boy put forth an effort to sound as calm and collected as possible, but his voice jumped throughout the octaves as he spoke. For some unexplainable reason, Darren had some false hope when asking her the dreaded question. Knowing Evan, it was stupid of him to believe that he would receive any different of an answer. He now figured that he was just a pity case in her eyes, and nothing more than that. The only reason she hadn’t left by now was because he was wildly unstable… that, and he was providing her with a free place to stay. Sniffling, Darren buried his face in the back of Evan’s neck and clung to her for dear life, desperately seeking alleviation from the one who had hurt him.
Evan didn’t say another word. There wasn’t a point right? She was holding him at arms length and attempting to make sure he didn’t get too attached. Honestly it was already too late for that but she still had some blind faith that he’d quit eventually. “Can you please not start crying?” She muttered. “Just get some rest Darren, you need it.” And with that, she tucked her hand under her head and clenched her eyes shut attempting to zone out from hearing his sniffling because alright, she hurt him. That’s what she was good at right? Might as well keep up the pattern.
Darren: Evan’s next comment hurt Darren even more than the rejection itself. He had heard that phrase innumerable times throughout his life, and it never seemed to lose its effect. Especially coming from her, after his previous meltdown. “I-I’m s-s-sorry,” he stammered, jerking his arms off of her torso. He held himself responsible for all of the hurting he was doing right now. It was wrong of him to ask such a question, let alone expect a positive response. The dark-haired boy turned his back to Evan and bit down on his clenched fist, in an attempt to muffle his sniffles and whimpers. Darren just prayed the girl would end up falling asleep soon so that he could go and take the outcome of the evening out on himself.
Evan sighed a bit and sat up, rolling her shoulders before glancing back at him. “I’m going to go get a shower,” she shook her head and got up. “You stay here. I’ll be back in a little bit.” No such luck that she’d be falling asleep anytime soon, she was going to go and take a cold shower and then drink some coffee, hopefully staying awake until later on the next day when she could get some coke.
Darren didn’t even look up at Evan when she spoke to him.
