If I hadn't read CS Pacat before I don't think I would've picked up Dark Rise based on that blurb on Goodreads. It's not usually what I gravitate towards. YA, historical setting with magic(?) and the first half of DR was draggy as hell. Thank the heavens in Pacat we trust. Which makes me wonder how many books have I missed out on just cus I don't vibe with the blurb, tags or reviews (mostly the first one). But if something piqued my interest, I do read the first available pages so I don't think I've missed that many. Growing up, the downfall of being a bookworm is that you get really picky (at least and unfortunately I'm that way) and can tell how the story unfolds, can guess the major plot points, can tell early on if the writing is for me or isn't. And I usually do not stick to the same writers (there are some, but few), but I feel like Pacat could write how their local pigeons made some shabby nest somewhere and I would still read it and cheer along. Anyhow, still no news about Dark King? I'm telling you either it got pushed back (again) to early 2027 or it comes out later this fall.

Oh look what I found sitting in my drafts- my ramblings on Dark Heir. Since then I’ve read the book 2 more times and I do have maaaaany things to add and clarify but I don’t think I’m gonna do that.

This was the most sexual non-sexual (w/o explicit scenes) I’ve ever read lmao /holding my head/

From the flashbacks/memories we can say that Sarcean had a “dark” reputation whilst working FOR the Sun King. Perhaps from there the first gossiping started. (You don’t say.) I think everyone from the Old World let it slip from their minds that Sarcean while doing his deeds and using his dark powers was working for the light, for the Sun King. He did what was asked and expected of him. So what happened, when did it all start to go downhill for him? When the Lady showed up or before? I do think that the Sun King is his brother if not then a step/half one.. Pacat likes messed up family dynamics. If I’m wrong sue me.

Will is a grey "hero" but wears villain's colours. I think with only this one sentence I can sum up what I think of him as a character. His own strong sense of morals are guiding him. Is he my favourite character in this universe? Yes, he is. Do I always agree with him- hell no lmao.

I’m one of those who think James is not actually collared- well he is but not in the sense that the light supporters have been saying. I think the collar acts as a bridge to Sarceans botomless power supply.

Anyhow, I’m gonna re-read it again soon cus the wait for the 3rd one is ending me.

That "Untitled" title on goodreads on the dr3 page is giving me an allergic reaction, honestly. I'm very patient but my patience is running thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis thin.
