What kind of hero are you? Quote of the month [Aug 2018]
Who worked and played hard?
Summer vacation is a time where most people ‘play hard’. Finally having a breather from working hard all year. Sitting by the pool sippin’ margaritas. Only some will also ‘work hard’ during the vacation.
I’ll be honest, it was also my plan (pre-vacation) too work hard on my blog and to start writing. And I didn’t do as much as I would have liked. I had less time than I thought I’d have. But it wasn’t a reason for me to quit. I changed my plans to fit my situation. In the last weeks before summer vacation, school pretty much took up all of my time. Next to taking up all my time, it also exhausted me that I was really looking forward to just relax during vacation. So I planned to enjoy my vacation while spending a few hours every day to write or work on my blog.

A work in progess
Why I opened all my social accounts before most were “done”!
For websites and blogs, most brands/companies make a perfect page before going public. And for big brands and companies, of course, this is the way to go, because you got to do that to be professional. But for me, I have a reason that I didn't do this.
The only thing I really knew for sure right before starting this blog was (1) that I wanted to start the blog and (2) the name! That’s it. I wasn’t set on a certain style or theme (even though I know which direction I want to go in with the style). I don't even have an official logo or a slogan. I'm all working this stuff out now as I go along. And I thought the beauty of this is that I can share this journey with you!
Life is a journey, and you learn so much along the way. We never really know what is going to happen next. We can plan all we want, but we all know... No matter how good you are at planning, life is going to happen and interrupt your plans.
When I was still in high school, I kid myself with a 5-year, 10-year, 20-year plans. The typical romantic movie fall in love, get married, have kids and a career nonsense. So... Life laughed at my picture perfect plans and threw some crazy situations at me. I'd say that in the last few years I've learned and accepted that 'life happens'.
The journey makes everything worth it in the end. So that's also what I'm doing with my blog. Taking it one day at a time!
- PachaMelissa
Behing the name PachaMelissa
I’ve wanted to start a blog for a long time but I always made excuses about not having enough time, content or whatever. A few months back, while doing marketing for an event, I decided after this event I would start my own blog! I started watching video’s on youtube for advice on marketing and starting a personal brand and got really inspired. But I knew that I would need a good name!
And this is how it all began…
There was an ad from mipacha (meaning “My World”), a company that sells shoes. They were these retro hippie type of shoes. I liked the vibe, so checked it out and it turns out that the shoes are handmade from sustainable materials.
A few weeks later I was looking through my Instagram feed and I stumbled upon the hashtag #pachamama. I immediately knew it had to have something to do with mother nature, and I was right! Pachamama means “Mother Earth” and is a goddess revered by the indigenous people of the Andes.
I’d been picking my brain for weeks, trying to find a name that I would love. After reading the meaning on pachamama I knew I wanted to do something related to it. I really loved it and connected to it, but I can’t claim such an awesome name for myself. But then I thought about combining it with my name! And that is how I came up with the name “PachaMelissa” for my blog.
So for me, PachaMelissa means Melissa’s World. Which is basically what I’ll be diving into with my blog. But it’s not only my world I’ll be writing about, I’ll also write about how we all as a community can help ourselves and each other make this beautiful world a better place by doing small and/or simple things.
I’ll be picking a new topic each week to write about! So stay posted!
PS. No, I haven’t bought any mipacha sneakers (yet)! ;)
