Bug of the Day
Swept this mating pair of seed bugs (Phlegyas abbreviatus) out of a meadow the other night. It was amusing to me that they took off together, still attached, the smaller male (pretty sure) being dragged along by the female.

#1252 and 1253 - Stenophyella macreta with Big Pink Mite
The Pachy Bugs are a small family that used to be included in the Lygaeidae, with some 13 genera and 80-odd described species, and not well studied. Australia has 4 genera, but the only photos on the Atlas of Living Australia are for Stenophyella (which admittedly is pretty close).
EDIT: This one is almost certainly Stenophyella macreta
I saw this one running around on the sand beside Garden Rock, near Cue - the large pink mite attached to its back, under the wings, is particularly interesting - many mites are parasitic, and the Velvet Mites, which are predatory as adults, parasitise insects and occasionally spiders when they’re younger.
