I have a question about Newt!bot and Hermann!bot. How will their drift work? Do they have to, like, reverse systems and set things up like they're the Jaeger and the kaiju are the pilot, the organic element?

:00000 UMM hmmm I guess so?? That sounds like it’d work!! And I think for advanced robots like Newt and Hermann, their ‘brains’ would work similarly with a human’s!

In Pacific DRM, how do Hermann and Newt get treated by everyone at the Hong Kong Shatterdome? Do some people forget they aren't human? Do some treat them like just machines? How did Stacker come to make the two of them his research division? And is Hermann technically considered the stolen property of Lars Gottlieb and how does that go over once the Wall starts going up?

I think people would forget that Newt isn't human, but Hermann still acts robotic enough that people notice. And yeah, there are people who don't care much for robots and would not treat Newt and Hermann as equals, but as tools instead to be used. Pentecost, Tendo, and most of the pilots are all respectful of them though. 

Newt was created to be a highly intelligent robot capable of creative thinking. During the kaiju invasion, the need for new, inventive ways to destroy them and also for a way to close the breach was in demand, so Newt was born from that need. He was incredibly successful, though his incredibly lively and manic personality was an unintended side-effect. Still, Newt's creators were proud of him and treated him well.

Hermann was a super AI built by Lars early on in the Jaeger program. He was meant to help with devising strategies to stop the kaiju and work alongside LOCCENT. Hermann is actually considered property of PPDC as a result, so Lars has no hold over him physically, but Hermann will forever remember him as his creator who held no love for him.

Pentecost has had Hermann working with him for a very long time due to him being PPDC property. I'd like to think that just one day Pentecost talked to Hermann and learned how much potential he had within him and recruited him on the spot. It's later on that Newt is brought in as a thinking bot who ends up getting into the kaiju specimens.

Thinking on it some more, I realized instead of Tendo being Newt's creator, it'd probably just work better if Newt's creator is Illia and Jacob Geiszler.

And like, Monica Schwartz was Jacob's wife?? Who left because of a deteriorating relationship. And like she's a tattoo artist instead of an opera singer, and one day Newt who's snuck out of the lab and goes wandering around manages to find her?? Or something? And it's then that he finds out about tattoos and feels this unexplainable emotion towards them and bonds with Monica and stuff..... Monica, who had never had any interested in being a parent, becomes a sort of mentor/parental figure to Newt who's still a pretty naive bot, and also starts talking to Jacob again awoo......

Thinking more about the bot!AU

Newt is incredibly protective of his skin. More specifically, his tattoos. Though his synthetic skin is of a very high grade and is just as resilient as human skin with some regenerative qualities to restore small scratches, Newt treasures his tattoos deeply and does what he can to make sure they don't become marred. Of course he tries to do this discreetly so people don't notice his insecurities, and he still acts with much bravado.

(I'm thinking Newt's tattoo artist might be an OC? iunno....)

The body that Newt makes for Hermann stays incomplete for a long time. Though Hermann is capable of loading himself up in the body and moving around, his true entirety still lives within the computers. It's not until after the war that resources are freed up again and Newt gets Tendo and Mako's help to create a super brain that's similar to his own that's capable of holding all of Hermann.

I was thinking about Newt bot, and I think maybe he purposefully broke his voice chip so he didn't sound as smooth and robotic? Like, the scratchiness and shrieky yelling is all him trying to sound more unique and human and less "built". I'm getting myself all worked up over your AU ;__;

MORE NEWTBOT THOUGHTS

Newt adopts a lot of strays because he has a bit of bleeding heart when it comes to animals. However, the strays he adopts aren't all real animals.

Robo-pets are a big thing that exists, but many are thrown out when new models are released on the market. Newt goes around looking for robo-pets that have been thrown away and restores them and cares for them.

Newt is the one who builds Hermann a body, and accomplishes this by squirreling away android parts for years, slowly piecing together a whole body through mismatched pieces with the aid of his own ingenuity. 

Robots aren't allowed to buy things on their own and require a human's permission to do so (through legal means anyway). Though Newt has human friends that he trusts, he also knows in the midst of a war, no one would be willing to spare expenses to give an AI a body that it didn't even need.

So, Newt does everything in secret, and the result is a rather patchwork android with uneven limbs, but given that many of the parts were from models years apart and he had still somehow combined it all together into a working body, Newt considers it an overwhelming success.
