Cons & Festivals are Still the "Real World"
A couple weekends ago I went to Paganicon 2017 in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. There were all kinds of amazing workshops, rituals and conversations with great people that I had which I will discuss in following posts. At the final panel discussion was about making space in the broader culture, which is especially important as many religious and other types of minorities are currently experiencing a resurgence of fear and pressure to choose blending into the background or being more assertive about who we are. One assumption that kept being made is one I want to challenge.

Magical Mystic South
Mystic South is a new (and awesome!) Pagan conference that was recently held earlier this summer in balmy, bustling Atlanta, Georgia. I’ve never been to a big Pagan festival or conference, and every year Southern and East Coast folks are tempted with stories of PantheaCon or Many Gods West, much to our consternation. Imagine how thrilled I was when friends sent me a link to a big event that was (mostly) local!

I thank and recognize the people who responded to my open letters and make another call for transparency
Back in December of 2015 I wrote 2 open letters to Pagan Convention Organizers. In the first letter I explained that I no longer wanted to present at events where I was expected to pay to present and no compensation was offered for my efforts. In the second letter, I called for transparency on how guests of honor and featured presenters are selected, asking organizers to make it clear how a presenter is selected as well as what is offered to the presenter. Unpacking. Unsearching. Home from the Hill.
When I return from traveling, I like to unpack everything, start the laundry, put away the toiletries--even if I'm too tired to think about very much. We took the red-eye from San Jose on Monday night, stopping in Atlanta, arriving at Greenville/Spartanburg airport on Tuesday morning, bleary, weary.
PantheaCon is very big. There are many people. It's a decent hotel. There's some shopping, and a sushi bar.

Conferences I’ll be presenting at in the next few months

Convocation (http://www.convocation.org) Feb 18th - 21st. I'll be co-presenting a workshop on Pagan leadership with Shauna Aura Knight and Teaching The process of Magic:: From Kether to Malkuth and the Alchemy of Stillness
The Northwest Tarot Symposium (http://nwtarotsymposium.com) March 4th - 6th. I'll be on a panel about publishing and writing and I'll also be teaching a class on how to create your own Spread.
International Left Hand Path Consortium (http://lefthandpathcon.com/) April 8th-10th. I will be teaching one or two classes, depending on the schedule. I may also be presenting classes at the Phoenix and Dragon shop on April 6th and 7th, but don't have full details on that yet either.
