PINASAYA-PAHIYAS FESTIVAL

Philippines’ Festivals are really awesome.Last May 15, 2016, we went to Lucban Quezon to experience their pahiyas festival. One of the most colorful harvest festival to honor San Isidro Labrador, the patron saint of farmers.

It is called as  “Pahiyas”, because the festival is deeply rooted in the traditional celebration of the townsfolk in thanksgiving for bounty harvest.

The experience was fun, where you can see lots of houses decorated with different vegetables and other stuff.

Each houses has different themes and awesome displays.

This one is full of “palay”, and it was amazing how they do it.

Some are full of vegetables

Some have scarecrow or “palatakot” and many more.

The experience was new to me. since in our place, i don’t usually experience this kind of festival and i seldom visit our province to see such.

At least now i know the feeling of a real festival. and now I am really looking forward to experience other Philippines festivals.

Pahiyas Festival Lucban, Quezon May 15, 2016 The Pahiyas Festival is one of the most colorful celebrations here in the Philippines. In honor of San Isidro Labrador, the patron saint of harvest, people traditionally decorate their homes with ‘kiping’ a leaf-shaped rice paste, along with fruits and flowers from the harvest. Nowadays, all sorts of items are used in hopes of being recognized as the best decorated home in town. Going around, there’s really a lot to be seen (and experience) in Pahiyas beyond the heat and usual decor-laden streets. There’s the food, of course, especially the 'pansit habhab’ and ‘lucban longganiza,’ (7th photo) where the thought of both makes me hungry right now as I am writing this.. I think I’m going to eat for a bit. No really, they’re so good, it made me hungry right now. (In case you’re wondering, I have no pictures for it because there was no more left to take pictures with; I ate them all). Haha. Anyhoo, my first Pahiyas experience was a great scratch on the surface. I’m thankful for my spontaneous old folks (last photo - they’re not really old - or are they? shhh don’t tell them haha) for sharing this experience with me. Looking forward to next year’s!
