Pakhet, she who scratches, was the feline-headed war goddess who was hunted silently through the desert at night, stalking her prey. She was sometimes depicted as just a feline, killing snakes with her sharp claws. The exact type of cat varied, between desert wildcat, a lion, or a caracal. She was associated (through her connections with Bastet and Sekhmet) with the sun, desert storms, and as a protector of motherhood.
