What does a Pazzi backcourt realistically look like? I feel like we’ve never been able to see it at uconn since they’ve been playing out of position almost every time that they’re on the floor together. Paige has only ever been a point guard her freshman year of college.
I’m not sure yet, but here are a few things Dallas would need to work on for Paige and Azzi to be effective together:
1. Paige needs to develop as a point guard. She has to learn how to balance scoring while running the offense. That means staying assertive, hunting her own shot, and creating opportunities for her teammates.
2. Paige and Azzi can be passive when the other is hot. If one has the hot hand, the other sometimes stops looking for shots or loses rhythm.
3. Dallas needs a veteran backup point guard. Someone who can handle traditional PG duties so Paige can play off the ball. Pigeonholing her at point guard all game limits her effectiveness. When Paige is on the bench, Azzi can work with a traditional PG and keep hunting her shot.
It can work. Paige and Azzi have the potential to develop into a very good duo, but it might not happen immediately.
