His Girl Friday (1940) and Bojack Horseman (2014)
I never actually watched the last season of Bojack until like yesterday, and the moment this diva popped on screen I knew it was me she was continuously leaving hanging at the altar to snoop the scoop.
and if i say they’re the toxic yuri the world needed most..:
som bojack scribbles,
What your favourite BJHM ship says about you!
Boherb: you obsess over AUs and headcanons
Bobutter: you're a sucker for character foil dynamics and also your favourite ship is probably squidbob
BoJack x Diane: you love relationships where the two character arcs have exact opposite pathways over the course of the story
Diane x Mr Peanutbutter: you believe that there was a way to save their relationship. Also you're probably a Heartstopper fan
Diarolyn: you're me
Diane x Guy: you just want good things for Diane. And honestly, who doesn't?
BoJack x Todd: you're my friend Katie. Also you preferred their relationship at the end of the show
BoJack x Gina: you like relationships based in chemistry and banter, and you also obsess over AUs and headcanons
Princess Carolyn x Ralph: you want the best for PC (and who doesn't)
Princess Carolyn x Judah: PC's was your favourite character arc
Paige and Max: you're autistic
Rewatching Bojack horseman bc I am a sad sad boy and I got to season 6 with Paige Sinclair and Max and honestly they're fucking delightful?? Like, on earlier watches I thought their 1930s vibe was jarring and they were a weird distraction at a time when I was really invested in the development of the main characters.
But I'm realizing that this hog woman with the mid Atlantic accent and the guy who isn't matt berry are hilarious and charming? Like this is camp and I study period costumes for my job so like?? Exactly my vibe.
But I realized that the difference is that I'm watching the show for like the fourth time and I'm not a teenager like I was when I watched it the first few times and I'm no longer as invested in Bojack's overall success. Like, I recognize that it's a good thing for him to be forced out of public life, and while he was a good professor and that chapter was a representation of his progress and effort, this is not a guy who should have a position of power over young adults.
I was never one of those like, missing the point Bojack idolizers, but you develop a personal connection as a viewer to The Main Character and that's something that clouds any sense of moral objectivity you might otherwise have.
I know this is literally the point of the show to a degree and a major part of Diane's arc and the episode that focuses on Vanessa gecko also explores this exact thing. But I KNEW that the whole time and I still developed a dislike for characters I otherwise would have fucked with heavily bc the animal part of my brain was like "brrr the horse is your friend, you don't want bad things to happen to him".
Something something always question your own objectivity something something perceptions are shaped largely by the situation and not the thing itself
Bojack horseman except I actually prefer every other character besides him. (Especially Paige and max cause they are the best and I’m gonna pretend like they did get together ok? Ok.)
