Review of Pain Gone Products by Tower Health
Disclaimer - I have been given these products as part of a product review. Although the product was a gift, all opinions in this review remain my own and I was in no way influenced by the company.
Review of various Pain Gone products.
I have very kindly been offered the chance to review a selection of Pain Gone products from Tower Health.
I have received two Pain gone tens pens and two pain relief gels.
The first product I wanted to review is the original Pain Gone Tens Pen.
The company states:
"The Paingone is a revolution in pain relief, trusted by over 1.5 million customers worldwide. It offers easy to use pain relief that targets the point of pain in under a minute. Even better, it is drug free, works through clothing and doesnt need leads or pads." (From the Pain Gone Brochure)
I can't describe how excited I am by the sound of this product. I am so sick and tired of just pumping my body with painkillers, and not getting very much relief. I have tried tens pads before and they work really well, but the
I have tried tens pads before and they work really well, but they aren't practical unless you're at home. You have pads that have to be stuck to your body, and a pack that has to be held on to. Plus the stickiness of the pads eventually wear out and you need to buy more. Not practical!
So this pen works exactly like a tens machine, but without leads and wires.
So how do you use it?
On the top of the pen is a green click button. This needs to be manually pushed. You put the tip of the pen onto the site of the pain. Now, I will say here a quick disclaimer - I don't know about the technicalities here but I would not recommend using this on anything like your temples for a headache, or your teeth etc. The reason I say this is I have looked at the FAQ's on the website and people have asked if it can be used for that. As I say, I am not an expert but if you do try., I will not be held responsible!

In all honesty, I was a bit frightened at first about using this product. Due to the fact you have to manually click it, there is some trepidation of what it will feel like. I can't really describe completely how it feels. It doesn't hurt as such but is slightly unpleasant. I have a really bad nagging pain in my left ankle, so that was where I used it.
I can't really describe completely how it feels. It doesn't hurt as such but is slightly unpleasant. It is very similar to a small electric shock that you get when you accidentally touch something static, like a car door.
I have a really bad nagging pain in my left ankle, so that was where I used it. I started with one click to test and then built up. The more bone the area the more it started to feel uncomfortable, but bearable and you do get used to it.
After my ankle, I tried on the neck and around my shoulders. Again the pain was the same, so I thought I had got used to it. Until I went onto my neck muscles running by my shoulder blades when my neck suddenly spasmed! It didn't hurt, but the tens pen had obviously hit a nerve. It was quite funny actually, as my neck twitched!
I like the idea of this pen however there are some negatives.
The click is quite noisy. I wanted this pen to take to work. A portable tens. For when I get a flare. Yet it isn't very discreet. The click is really quite annoying. Even when watching TV it was disturbing me, let alone other people in the room.
2. It's not very manouverable. You can't easily reach places like the back of your neck. Especially because you have to hold the pen in a specific way, other wise you will 'shock' your whole hand! Combine this with the fact you have to manually click whilst trying to get into hard to reach places, makes it really uncomfortable.
After using this pen for over a week, I have noticed a difference in my pain. It has definitely helped. However as someone that wants this pen to take to work and use discreetly, it's definitely not something that can be done in private. It is also not a pen I would recommend for someone that has dexterity issues in their hands. For example arthritis. You need to hold the pen in a specific way (around the silver conductor) and put your thumb on the top to push the click button. It's not an easy thing to use for people with pain in their hands.
Over all rating - 6/10
The second product I was sent was the Pain Gone Plus.
This pen is the same in design as the pain gone original. The biggest difference however is that it's battery operated rather than manual. This makes a huge difference to the use and operation of the product!
In order to use, you put a AAA battery into the top of the pen and away you go.
You click the button ONCE and it repeatedly emits low vibrations until the button is clicked again. The operation book states you should hold the pen in the area that gives you pain for around 30 seconds. You can move the pen, and because it is drug free, you can use it as much as you want until you get relief! Brilliant.
The pain gone plus is better in so many ways compared to the original. Due to the fact you only click once, it is an awful lot more manouverable than the pain gone. No repeated clicks.
It is also an awful lot quieter than the pain gone! This is brilliant for me because it means when I've had pain I can use it discreetly if I need to.
I have definitely noticed a marked improvement in my pain levels since using both pens. My points however are awarded to the pain gone plus! It is just so much easier to use and quieter.
In both pens however, one of the downfalls I've noticed is the metal conductor car, wrapped around the pen (see image above). In order to use the pens, your hand must be wrapped around this metal bar. If you hold the pens in the wrong way (see image below), you will end up getting quite a strong shock in your hands!.
Both pens also are fantastic sizes, so they are perfect to carry around in your bag, or even a pocket!
Over all rating Pain Gone Plus 9/10
The prices are however, slightly different -
Pain Gone retails on the website for £29.95
Pain Gone Plus retails on the website for £49.95
I think the pain gone plus is definiately worth the value.
I was also very kindly sent two pain relief gels from the company.
The first gel I was sent is called Fisiocrem.
Fisiocrem has a strong but pleasant smell of Eucalyptus or Teatree to it. The smell, however, doesnt linger, which is useful because you wont stink of it all day!
It is a thickish consistancy, and white in colour, but rubs in really well.
On the website they state: -
Product Features
Natural solution for muscle and joint pain
Soothes pain quickly
Reduces inflammation
Powerful formulation of arnica, calendula, hypericum & malaleuca
Product Details
Fisiocrem Solugel muscle rub is a natural solution for everyday aches and pains and sports injuries. It quickly soothes pain and inflammation of common injuries, bruises, sprains and strains. Fisiocrem is designed to assist circulation and offers relief for rheumatism, arthritis, or venous congestion.'
I really liked this cream for more generalised pains that I have, where the paingone plus pen is not practical to use. For example my lower back.
The second gel I was sent was the pain gone joint plus.
This gel is not as thick in consistancy as the Fisiocrem and doesnt smell as strong, but still has a slight hint of Eucalyptus.
It is a slightly more 'gel' rather than cream consistancy to the Fisiocrem as well. Being a gel, I was surprised that it is not at all sticky and rubs in to the skin really easily and spreads well, with no excess rubbing involved.
On the website they state:
Product Features
Soothing
Reduces bruising & inflammation
Eases swelling & boosts circulation
Repair & prevents muscle damage
Product Details
A glucosamine-rich gel to promote supple joints and ease aching muscles. Non-greasy and quickly absorbed through the skin to get to work straight away. Soothes, reduces bruising and can boost circulation. 200ml tube.
The pain gone joint plus comes in a 200ml bottle compared to 60ml for the Fisiocrem.
Fisicrem retails for £8.95 or 3 for £20.85
Jointplus retails for £14.95 for a 200ml bottle.
It is difficult to pick a favourite from either of these, as both worked really well and I am so happy to have found gels and creams that i can use that dont have any 'drugs' in them.
I would highly recommend both gels for more generalised pain areas.
10/10 for both!
I hope you have enjoyed my reviews of these products. I really appreciated the opportunity to review them for you.
