@painsnothing: starter call. ) visiting the flores family residence has him feeling all sorts of uncomfortable. like when one of his foster mothers ( in a long line of them ) had tried to comb his hair to the side and put him in a tie. told him to keep his clothes clean. and dragged him to church. it's a stuffy sort of feeling that has him crawling out of his skin, but the need to pay some sort of respect outweighs any of what he's feeling.

he's here for maria's family.

it's been a few days with no word in regards to anything. police coming up with no answers. everything pulling up as a dead end even when nothing made sense. he made the trip down to uvalde to speak with her mother and sister. to ask if there was anything more he could do.

cup of tea in hand, danny thumbs along the rim of it a few times before setting it aside completely. "i can head out first, ana. ask around. see what i can find. you and your mom do what you need to and i'll bring anything i find back."

continuation for @painsnothing ♡ Discomfort creases her face, lashes stuck together and refusing to part: but hearing the further greeting from her sister is enough to bring clear relief to Maria’s form. It grounds her, in what would otherwise seem a delusional fantasy. Ignoring the dull pain in her shoulders and arms, she keeps going in her attempt to roll to her side, seeking more reassurances that this isn’t all in her head. The moment that she hears Ana’s voice crack, protectiveness surges through her skin, and her hands find Ana’s own to cradle and hold. 

She can’t find the words, not immediately. Part of her, overwhelmingly, doesn’t want to give that basement another thought. Wants to pretend, already, that none of it happened, and bury herself in her sister’s company instead. Her hands tighten their grip, though in her current state, it’s barely any change at all.

“Could… could I have a drink, first?”

It’s a feeble attempt to prolong their conversation, but she just can’t bear to talk about it yet. And more than that, it just feels so long since she’s drunk anything safe. Clear, pure water, not tainted by toxins, or dribbled cruelly over her parched lips. 

Maria takes in the view of her sister, gaze still fuzzy with exhaustion, and her heart aches at the clear torture she’s also been put through. The hurt she’s endured – that all of the group must have. And all because of her.

“...Are the others okay?”

Another avoidance of Ana’s question, but Maria has to ask. She doesn’t know if she could bear it if they aren’t. If, because of her, there are four bodies, waiting down in the morgue for an early grave. But she has to know.
