there i was looking for synonyms for the word assiduous because, you know, i thought that might be a little over the top for my fic and...

my literal brain spewed: the number of people I've encountered in my life who truly think the word painstaking is pain-staking appalled me. every misspoken instance played in my head. i know they know what it means by their context but it's:

PAINS TAKING.

It's conjoined from pains TAKING. literally means to take pains in something (which is to take meticulous care in your effort and being thorough about it).

Not STAKING one's self or others PAINFULLY.

screw it I'm using assiduous, people can look up whatever they don't know.
