While the basic colours are easy to count, the endless combinations of hues offer limitless design possibilities. Whether you’re planning a…
Discover four color pairs for creating impactful mural designs: deep blue with grey, olive green and charcoal, beige with misty green and brown, and silver leaf with stone quarry—each offering unique aesthetic appeal.
Photographer and mural artist Champagne couldn’t believe her luck when a friend told her that her dreamy Los Angeles apartment was up for grabs…and asked if Champagne wanted to take over the lease.
She loved the apt. and her friend had good taste, but she was itching to put her own stamp on it. Before personal belongings or furniture moved in, she mocked up her initial ideas in Photoshop, hauled over buckets of bubblegum pinks and mint greens and got to work.
Champagne also took on 2 roommates and they agreed on a checkerboard motif for the lounge.
She made the scalloped door frame by tracing a mixing bowl.
For the dining room ceiling she simply taped a pencil to the end of a broomstick, eyeballing the rings and nailing it in one go.
Not every room has to have a mural- look at how soft and pretty the kitchen looks.
This tiled kitchen bench is a great seating idea.
It’s not open, but when it’s closed the bathroom door is orange so she can tell guests to just use the orange door.
Her bedroom is a revolving canvas—the plan is to switch it up as it strikes her fancy, experimenting and trying out new formats and silhouettes.
This is Pony posing so pretty on the shelf.
Beautiful vintage bath.
The apt. has 3 terraces, so technically each roommate can have her own.

Rainbow Painted Staircase Balusters
Give a traditional stair railing an unexpectedly playful sensibility by painting the balusters a rainbow of closely related bold shades. You don't even need to bust your budget on dozens of cans of paint; simply select a few strong colors, then mix them with each other or white paint until you achieve your desired hues. Apply each shade to one or two balusters so that the colors gradually intensify as you work your way up the stairs. Here, vivid lime-greens, turquoises, and teals seem to leap out from a backdrop of all-white. A polished wood handrail tempers the look, elevating it to a sophisticated take on painted trimwork.
