Dipper knows how much Mabel loves Halloween, so he makes sure to sneak her out of the house every year to go trick or treating, even if he privately feels too old for it. Mabel gets pick of the costumes, because this is something Dipper does for her, and he would do anything for her-- even dress as a Team Flare grunt from pokemon, silly bright red hairdo and all.
Dipper’s only stipulation is that Mabel’s costume hides her identity, so they usually have a combination of wigs, masks, face paint and hoods.
Where is soos in this au is he like the northwest's butler or does he still work with the pines
Soos either works at the local high school as a janitor who dispenses surprisingly wise advice, or in the mall, maintaining the animatronics at Hoo-Ha Owl’s. Possibly both???
Either way, he used to work for the Northwest family until he got caught helping Dipper sneak Mabel out and was promptly fired. Having to leave the kids in that environment is his greatest regret, but Stanley is too powerful to face alone, and he has a grandmother to think about. If he works at the school, he probably tries to keep in touch with Dipper, who would avoid him at all costs.
...Honestly that alone really makes the janitor job appeal to me, because I’m terrible.
Melody is the one who works for the Pines’ in this AU. She works the front desk at the bed and breakfast.
Storyline--The Northwest Conspiracy: A Play in Three Parts
Yesterday I got an ask from painted-rose134 asking about what the Northwest Mansion Mystery and Sock Opera equivalents would be like in Conspiracy Falls. I replied to the ask with the NMM equivalent, but cut it off because the post was getting long. So, here’s the Sock Opera equivalent post I promised!
Pacifica decides to put on a play for the school’s annual talent show centered around her grandmother, and what really happened that night thirty years ago that ended in the death of Stanford Northwest, and her grandmother’s disappearance. Naturally, the script lays all the blame squarely on Stanley Northwest’s shoulders.
Dipper scoffs about it but doesn’t bother to try to put a stop to it. By now they get along a little better, and honestly he predicts the whole thing is going to end in hilarious disaster. He is half-right.
Meanwhile, Stanley decides enough is enough. He’s done letting Pacifica prance around dragging his name through the mud without consequence. He summons Bill, and asks him to take care of the situation.
In order to do this, Bill cashes in on a deal Stanley made with him almost 50 years prior-- complete access to the mind and body of his firstborn’s firstborn. He uses Mabel as a vessel, generally freaks the heck out of Dipper, and goes on a jolly joyride throughout the town, searching for Pacifica.
When he does find Pacifica, he basically threatens her with bodily harm if she doesn’t put a stop to the play. Paz refuses to be silenced, and attempts to use her grandmother’s Diary to figure out a way to get Bill out of Mabel. She finds no solutions, but Bill’s glee about finally getting revenge gives her an idea—she asks for a deal, herself in exchange for Mabel. Bill loves the thought of being able to control his greatest enemy’s granddaughter, and agrees.
He takes the time in Paz’s body to dismantle her efforts. He trashes her newsroom and all of her equipment, harasses other students, and decides to end the night with a bang. A little bit of on-stage murder during her play seems like a great way to ‘take care of the situation’.
Dipper tracks down Mabel to the Pines’ home, but by the time he gets there, everything has already gone down. Mabel is no longer possessed, and Paz has been evicted from her body. Unlike in the show, however, Paz isn’t entirely invisible—Mabel’s mastery of the mindscape allows her to see Paz while she’s trapped. Mabel explains the situation to Dipper while he checks on her for injuries, and he is utterly humbled by Paz’s sacrifice for someone she barely knows, beyond that she’s the sister of a boy who has tried on multiple occasions to humiliate her or otherwise ruin her life. The twins vow to help her in return for what she’s done, and head to the play.
They crash it before Bill can actually kill Grenda-as-Stanford on stage, and hold her off until Mabel can rip Bill out of Paz’s body and back into the mindscape. Paz takes back her body and is, of all things, horrified that Bill used her to make her play all about the very thing she was trying to disprove.
Unexpectedly, Dipper comes to her aid, declaring that the entire play was actually commissioned by the Northwest family as an advertisement for her mother’s “haunted” Bed and Breakfast. He and Mabel stay behind to help clean up the mess Bill left in his wake, and Dipper takes a moment to pull her aside and give her an awkward but very generous thank you, because Mabel means the world to him.
Paz realizes he might have a heart somewhere beneath his loyalty to his grandfather, and the two agree to a truce. Things probably end with a group hug as instigated by Mabel, because finally. Dipper tries futility to break away and save face but is no match in the face of Grenda’s sheer strength, and Candy takes a picture that ends up on a corkboard in their newsroom.

*cracks knuckles* Alright, let’s do this.
Before I get into the specifics, it’s important to note that by this time The Other Northwest storyline (as well as several others) have already gone down, so Pacifica not only knows about Mabel, but has met her, too. Dipper has also stopped denying the existence of the supernatural by this point. Too much has gone down to ignore it.
The NMM equivalent in Conspiracy Falls is a direct follow-up from the Society of the Blind Eye equivalent, so for context: Paz attempts to confront the Department, Dipper attempts to intervene, and they are caught. Unlike in canon, things don’t end in success. Paz has her memories of the night erased, and Dipper is delivered to his Grandpa, who realizes Dipper has been helping Paz instead of spying on her for him. He is Not Pleased.
In the NMM-based storyline, Mabel is actually the one to contact Pacifica. She tells her that her brother is acting strangely, and admits she isn’t even sure if he is Dipper at all. Paz agrees that he has been acting oddly in school recently. She asks for Paz’s help, and lets her into the Manor, since Lee is away on business.
While trying to find Dipper, the power goes out, and several mutated creatures begin to prowl the halls. They fight their way to Dipper, only to discover Mabel was right--he isn’t Dipper at all, but a shapeshifter who has taken his place. Together, the two of them destroy the shapeshifter, but that still leaves the question of where the actual Dipper is.
After a bit of investigating (and Paz asking a ton of questions about portraits, how Mabel can stand living there, etc), they discover that Stanley has a massive underground facility underneath the Manor, in which he has been conducting countless experiments on supernatural creatures. This is where they find Dipper, locked in a holding cell.
It’s immediately obvious that he’s very sick (feverish, restless), but that doesn’t stop him from attacking them the second they let him out. He blames them for everything that’s happened to him. The more he talks, the more it becomes clear that this is more than just hurt feelings from someone who has been traumatized-- he references events that have never happened, or grossly misinterprets events that did.
When they try to calm him down, he lashes out with magic, and Mabel is forced to take him on, because I’m cruel and terrible. She knocks him out, and the two find a generator before bringing him back to his room. They hope that whatever happened to him will wear off by morning, but when have things ever been that easy for them?
They’re right, of course. Bill Cipher always keeps his end of a bargain.
There’s an “epilogue” plot of this where Pacifica tries to reach out to Dipper, whose mind has been drastically tampered with. Dipper finally opens up to Pacifica about his childhood and home life, but is so out of it that Paz can’t tell what is true and what’s a lie. It’s kind of like a hurt/comfort sick fic, if the fic had all of the hurt and none of the comfort.
Now that I think about it this might be more of an Into the Bunker equivalent? But it’s also the vehicle to Paz finding out the truth about Dipper and Mabel’s circumstances, sooooo I guess a fusion of both.
The next storyline is a Dreamscaperer’s equivalent, in which Mabel uses her knowledge of the mindscape to bring herself and Paz into Dipper’s mind to see if they can fix whatever went wrong directly, only to run directly into the source of the problem.
Aaaaaaaand this is really long, so I’m going to make a separate post about the sock opera storyline!
