Tonight I hand painted an old pair of combat boots. They were the “Monique@ from Kohls, a manmade discontinued pair that were pretty beat up. I really wasn’t wearing them any more. I painted them in an #aliceinwonderland theme with the #whiterabbit and I think they also have a #steampunk vibe. Ladies and gentlemen, I now present to you my octopus boots!!! I’m even doing a little twirl to show them in action. I’m pretty sure I could wear these without breaking my neck or an ankle, where I’d ever wear them to is a whole other story! 🤣 All freehand and didn’t even use any reference pics this time. Since the boots were in such bad shape before I didn’t bother mixing textile medium into the paint to prevent cracking, but Ty made a jig to hold them while he sprayed them with some clear coat, so that might help. I was given a box of old boots and shoes a few months ago and I’ve always felt these were just calling out to have an octopus or two painted on them. So guess what I’m doing today? 👢 + 🎨 = 🐙!! The pleather on them is peeling in spots so if I screw them up it’s not like it’ll be any waste of money. I have no idea where I’d ever wear them to, and I’d probably break my neck in these heels anyway, but when has practicality and logic ever stopped me? Stay tuned.
