Bucovina painted churches. Voronet, Suceavita and Humorului. A friend, Orthodox, explained the reason for the paintings: the churches were too small and so only the nobles could attend the service inside the church. The commoners had to stay outside and attend the mass. The images would help them follow the words and stories of the Saints.
