It was such an honour to participate at the @surreyartgalleryassociation event “Paint Off” tonight. We are each given a set of oil sticks and mark-making tools to complete an oil painting in 25mins. We were divided into 3 groups (total of 14 artists) and the winner from each group competed in the final round. The winners of each round, including the final round were chosen by the audience! It was my very first time using oil sticks and I was so nervous and I had no idea what to paint until the challenge started! I felt exhausted after finishing my first painting and just as I was chatting with a buyer, my name was called to enter the final round! I remembered thinking to myself “ok, now what?” and just like the first painting, I let my heart decide. The paintings speak of my journey after losing Cookie... of heartbreak and despair yet with a sense of hope... for I know he is in a better place and that he lives on in my heart. I love you always, Cookie. I was so surprised and felt so overwhelmed with love when they crowned me the winner of the competition! And a lovely buyer bought both paintings right away! Thank you for all the love and support everyone! Thank you @melissa_burgher_art for inviting me and encouraging me to try out this new medium. I think I’ve found my new favourite medium to use, alongside charcoal of course. #vancouverartist #artcompetition #oilstick #oilstickpainting #oilpainting #fionatang #fionatangart #saga #surreyartgallery #surreyartcentre #surreyartgalleryassociation #paintoff #landscapepainting #stormyskies #stormysea @100braidst @opusartsupplies @ecuad_library @emilycarru @surreyartgal (at Surrey Art Center) https://www.instagram.com/p/BvYjPbNhxMR/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1wv4lb646w8z5
