Oceans make up the majority of our world. We call ourselves the Blue Planet. Our oceans act as the lungs of the planet providing most of the oxygen we breath. Prochlorococcus and other ocean phytoplankton are responsible for 70% of our worlds oxygen. 🌏 Underwater life is under threat to climate change, pollution debris and overfishing. 💧 Today is Word Oceans Day and even though we practice conservation everyday, today we share to remind how we all must work together to bring change and ways we can innovate for a sustainable ocean. 🌊 This year as of January 1, 2020 Palau’s National Marine Sactuary went into effect. 80 percent of Palau’s national waters are protected. All extractive activities such as fishing and mining are prohibited. 🌀 We throwback with highlights of what Palau has done to create a healthier ocean as inspiration to work towards more solutions. 💙 #worldoceansday #worldoceansday2020 #palauoceans #ouroceanpalau #pacificocean #palaunationmarinesanctuary #climatechangepalau #climatechange #overfishing #sharksanctuary #palausharksanctuary #palauplasticpollution #plasticpollution #invasivespeciespalau #invasivespecies #invasivespeciesconservation #oceanconservation #oceanoxygen #blueplanet #sharkfinning #reefambasadors #palaureefambasador #paddlingpalau #cleaneroceans #healthyoceans (at Republic of Palau, Palau Island , Micronesia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CBKx4_yBM9f/?igshid=cggyxj2cnzq3
