Pale milkcap (Lactarius pallidus)

This milkcap is extremely slick and slimy when wet, rarely drying out completely, but still glossy or sticky when it does. The cap and milk usually have a mild taste (though they’re not considered edible) but on occasion specimens are found that have a very hot or peppery taste, similar to some of their fairly close relatives in the Russula family. Some mycologists have taken this as evidence that they are in fact a separate species.

Hi! Inat also couldn’t identify this one. Any ideas?

This looks like a member of the Russulaceae family, most likely a milkcap, and mostly likely the Pale milkcap (Lactarius pallidus). Though the gills appear darker than you would expect, they are in shadow, and do frequently turn ochre as the fungi ages, as this mature specimen has.

Of course, knowing where you were submitting from would help a lot!
