Going to Muse @ Paleis12 Brussels

On Monday March 7th my friend Mo said something along the lines of "I'm so excited to see Muse again next Saturday." MUSE NEXT SATURDAY?!!??! At that exact time I was listening to Psycho and was thinking why didn't I order a ticket when I had the chance?  I had completely forgotten about their Drones Tour and I found myself wanting to go. Really, really bad.

Ticket Swap solved my I-was-too-stupid-to-not-order-a-ticket-when-the-presale-started-problem and I travelled to Mo's place on Saturday afternoon. We walked and talked for a bit before having dinner and heading to Brussels. As can be seen in this video she lives in a very beautiful rural area. Visiting her always feels like I'm on vacation.

I filmed most part of the day in order to make a sort of 'day in the life of' video, but with the main focus on the Muse concert. You're reading this because you're into Muse, right? Anyway. I didn't film this with professional equipment so bear with me. This video is also my first editing project since 2010 and as I avoided my editing classes like the plague during college, I had to re-educate myself.

Something I can't ignore while writing this blog post on March 30th, are the terrorist attacks on the airport and metro station on Tuesday March 22nd. We were very aware that Brussels was on their toes concerning terrorism, especially since the Paris attacks. We could definitely see that the venue wasn't taking any risks. Soldiers were patrolling the perimeter of the venue, armed with automatic or semi-automatic guns. Everybody, and all belongings were checked multiple times. It made us feel safe. The Brussels attacks hadn't happened yet, Salah Abdeslam hadn't been arrested either. After the attacks, while I was editing the footage, Muse's lyrics and political background literally hit home and again emphasized the kind of world we live in today.

Back to the concert. All of my friends had ground-level tickets and because I bought a ticket last-minute I ended up with a balcony seat. It's a risk you take, but because of an unfortunate knee-to-wall collision during a game of laser tag, my knee was still out of sorts and a seating place was just fine. I count myself extremely lucky as I had an excellent view of the stage, as you can see in the video. The music was great, the overall experience of the concert was great as well.

It was a typical Muse performance, nothing less that excellent. There were drones (obviously). A rotating stage, striking visuals, a political backdrop. I'm not going to into too much details about the show, you can watch my video and judge for yourself. If you're curious, here's the setlist.

Personally I've seen them perform four times now and this performance takes second place. In my opinion the show I saw at Werchter Boutique in 2013 (during the 2nd law tour) was the best one. You can agree or disagree.
