Create a breathtaking Palette Knife Sculpted Cake featuring beautiful dahlias. This cake is not only visually stunning but also delicious, with layers of marbled vanilla cake and vibrant buttercream dahlias.
Ingredients: 2 cups all-purpose flour. 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar. 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened. 1/2 cup vegetable oil. 4 large eggs. 1 cup buttermilk. 2 teaspoons vanilla extract. 1 teaspoon baking powder. 1/2 teaspoon baking soda. 1/2 teaspoon salt. Red, yellow, and purple gel food coloring. Vanilla buttercream frosting. Assorted edible food colors for dahlias. Edible gold dust optional.
Instructions: Preheat your oven to 350F 175C and grease two 8-inch round cake pans. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside. In a separate large bowl, cream together the softened butter, sugar, and vegetable oil until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract. Alternate adding the dry flour mixture and buttermilk to the wet ingredients, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined. Divide the cake batter evenly into three portions. Color one portion with red food coloring, one with yellow, and one with purple. Mix until the colors are well incorporated. Pour each colored batter into separate cake pans. Use a toothpick to create a marbled effect by gently swirling the colors together. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely. Once the cakes are cool, level the tops if needed and frost them with vanilla buttercream between the layers and on the outside of the cake. Now, for the palette knife sculpted dahlias, tint small portions of the buttercream with assorted edible food colors to create the desired dahlia shades. Use a palette knife to sculpt the dahlia petals onto the cake, starting from the center and working your way outward. For added flair, you can dust the dahlias with edible gold dust. Serve and enjoy your stunning Palette Knife Sculpted Cake - Dahlias!
