HONEYCAKE: The Swiss/Tavvy Thesis
sigh. may this end the curse.
This is one big post where I aim to detail and elaborate upon the Swiss/Tavvy ship that I have become so...infatuated with these past few days. All of this began quite a while ago, when I stumbled upon some wonderful art by @legfish and @nimo-flakes .
Upon first glance, one would assume Swiss/Tavvy is purely a decent bit. A crackship. And so early into the comic, we really are just kinda smashing the dolls we have so far together and seeing what happens. I thought it was funny, Tavvy having to deal with this Swiss guy he certainly wouldn't like, but as time went on I became more and more...like, interested. There's something to this.
Most Swiss/Tavvy art you'll see is either comedic or plainly romantic. Usually it's Swiss doting on Tavvy and Tavvy being like "whatever," and I cannot deny this is certainly part of this ship's appeal. Swiss sees Tavvy, learns of his status as heir to Crockercorp and son of a woman who he shares ideals with quite closely, and decides...yeah. I'll pursue him. Perhaps it's a play for more power for himself to wield someday. And in Tavvy's case it's just funny to see him kind of annoyed at such silly advances.
Something else to consider on the Swiss side of things is his relationship with TC. He has feelings for that mirthful purple boy. Gets a little hot under the collar during their chats. However, odds are pointing towards TC not super reciprocating, awkwardly trying to leave the conversation after affirming Swiss' loyalty. But with Tavvy...Tavvy could certainly also be considered a mirthful purple boy. A solid rebound.
As much as I do like the very silly fluffy dynamic that's been going around, I feel more likely that it would work better perhaps as a pitch relationship. A kismesissitude.
These two boys have the potential to really hate each other. Starting with Tavros, already in our flushed scenarios he isn't too thrilled. Why would he? Swiss is a lot like his mother who he hates. Same ideology, same lust for power and control. A Very Rosemary Thanksgiving gives us that, in that future, Tavvy develops some psychosexual issues surrounding Jane and...well, who's to say that can't happen here as well?
I know I just explained why Swiss would love this guy. But he could also hate him just as easily. He sees Tavvy as being in an ideal position, heir to a powerful corporation that pulls all the strings. He has all that Swiss wants...and he's rejecting it. It could eat away at him, and he could resent Tavvy for that. Jealousy is one hell of a motivator.
The two of them certainly could help each other figure out how they feel about power, control, and their own desires and what they actually want to do at the end of all of this. A mutually beneficial character growth thing. It could be beautiful. It's also yaoi so, y'know, bonus point there maybe.
Now onto other matters. Ship names. I've always loved the silly ship names from original Homestuck. Hammertime...Communism...Spider8reath...ignore that all of those are June ships. Something so charming about them. HSBC does already have some. "Cheese and Krakens" is...give you a moment to guess...yes, Swiss/Ly'lac. But that's really the only one I've heard frequently enough.
With Swiss/Tavvy, we've got avenues to explore. Do we run with a portmanteau? We'd have Swisstav, Swavvy, Tavroswiss...none of those really feel or sound good though. I proposed taking Tavvy's chumhandle and mixing it with something Swiss-like, resulting in glutionousGymnasikkou. It's cumbersome and long and annoying, but I feel like it could fit the ship's vibes like that. But @revibe1 managed to come up with HoneyCake. Swiss likes honey, Tavvy can bake...sure.
Though they said it "makes no sense". I'd argue that most ship names don't super make a lot of sense (Cheese and Krakens feels like it'd be better suited for Swiss/AA rather than Swiss/Ly'lac) but I'm going to try my damnedest now to justify this name.
The honey part is easy, Swiss genuinely enjoys cultivating honey. He makes special kinds for his friends. Cake...we've gotten confirmation that Tavvy does bake from the reddit QnAs, but we haven't seen much of that in comic. We haven't seen much of Tavvy's interests at all in comic, or even in the Epilogues. However, to further tie it into Swiss...wouldn't you know it, there's an ancient greek/roman type of honey cake called a "Placenta Cake". Life Swiss believers, do with that what you will.
Ultimately, do I think this ship will sail? Eh, probably not. It's too early to call with how little we have on both participants in it. But it's fun to entertain the idea...I hope I've compelled you to think a little further about this silly little pairing. Join me in the Curse. Or maybe none of this makes any sense and it all just is bullshit ramblings. But either way, thank you for reading.

Vanilla Honeycake
(very moist and delicious)
Mix together the wet:
1 egg
1/3 cup applesauce
1/3 cup oil
1/3 cup honey
1 tsp vanilla extract
Then, in a separate bowl, mix the dry:
1 cup flour
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
Then slowly stir the dry into the wet and mix until smooth, but do not overbeat.
Pour into a greased and floured brownie pan and bake gently.
Start with a 350°F oven for 10 min, then drop the oven to 325°F for 10 min and check to see how things are going. It should look like a cake but still be jiggly in the center by now. If so, drop the temperature to 300°F and let it bake just until the center sets. This might take 5 to 15 minutes, depending on your oven and pan. Finished cake should be about 200°F in the center if checked with a probe thermometer. Probe might come out slightly gooey, that's OK.
Take it out of the oven and let it rest an hour or two. It will firm up while resting.
Also, cold cake will make prettier slices, and not melt the frosting.
For frosting:
Mix mascarpone and honey to desired sweetness. Shmear on cake.
Good with sliced pears, or other fruit of choice.
