palmerstrangeweek22 / day one: free choice

(from a blurb I wrote months ago - it's all I have fit to offer for palmerstrange)

...it suddenly felt as though a kaleidoscope of butterflies had been set loose in his chest and stomach. The last time they’d invaded with such fierce insistence was years ago; the first time that Christine Palmer had accompanied him to a Neurological Society Dinner—as a colleague only, presumably as just his ‘plus-one’. He was mingling and glad-handing his way through the throng, following an utterly forgettable speech by the Society Chairman. Working the crowd and collecting the kudos of his peers for a recent breakthrough in surgical technique which he’d chronicled in a paper for The Journal of Neuroscience, when he’d looked up and saw her reentering the banquet hall from a trip to the ladies’. And he had simply forgotten how to breathe for about a dozen heartbeats.

At the time, Stephen wouldn't have been able to say exactly why--but in retrospect the reasons became achingly clear. The combination of the light from the crystal chandeliers and the smooth silk of her dress clinging to her in all the right places; the way she moved while being completely unaware of how breathtaking she looked; and her honest, spontaneous smile when her eyes met his across the room, had done it. Perfect details that had brought those butterflies to vibrant life, along with the realization that he wanted her to be his. Not only in a physical way—but in wanting her undivided attention. The stimulation of her keen mind and the comfort of her laughter at his most stupid jokes. The softness and sanctuary of her heart opening to him as he confided the secrets and fears and insecurities that he successfully hid from the world. Precisely those things he could finally admit to himself that he longed for again. Longed for, right now...

palmerstrange week 2022

day 7: in every universe

He knew it was dangerous using the dark hold but he also knew that he had to whether he was going to be happy in a universe with Christine. He searched and searched for hours, universe after universe up to the point he found one. He watched closely and saw Christine sitting in what probably was their bed smiling down at  a small figure in her arms.

He realized that it was probably their kid. So he walked into the body of the other Stephen and walked in the room. Christine gave him a look "are you okay?" she asked softly. "More thank okay" he said and took the place next to her on the bed. "Want me to take her to bed so you can get some sleep?" he asked softly and took the baby in his arms rocking her gently and getting up. "Thank you" she said. He walked around the room until he believed she was asleep.

The baby started crying and Stephen moved around rocking her "hm what's the matter little one?" he asked softly. The baby opened her eyes and looked up at her dad. "yeah,it's okay" he said giving her a small kiss on the forehead. Minutes later she was soon asleep and he placed her into bed. He walked back to his and Christine's room wrapping her in his arms.

"You know that I love you right?"He asked " I love you in every universe" he said and she turned to look at him. "You're all romantic tonight. but I love you too" she smiled softly and stayed under his arms.

Little did he know that his universe christine came to tell him how she felt. She knew it was a bad idea but ever since everything that happened in the wedding which didn't at all happen and she left Charles at the altar the money Stephen left, so he didn't really know she wasn't married.

She still had feeling for him, even though five years had passed. She knocked softly on the Sactrum's door and waited. Wong was the one to open. "Hello" she said "I'm looking for Stephen,I'm-" she began but Wong interrupted her. "I know you, you're all he talks about Christine, come in, I will let him know you're here." Wong said leading her inside.

He offered her a glass of warm tea to which she happily accepted. She sat on the couch and waited for Wong to bring Stephen. Once Stephen heard Wong getting close, he stopped the dream walking and closed the dark hold placing it away with the thought of Christine in the universe she was and he saw that she was happy with her Stephen.

"Strange" Wong said interrupting him from his thoughts "Christine is here" he said "Christine ?" he wondered. "What's she doing here?" he asked Wong. "She said she wanted to see you and talk to you" while opening a portal leading to leave and teach the rest of the people who were trained.

Stephen walked downstairs and found Christine on the couch sipping her tea and he got reminded of a memory years ago.

"Thanks for the tea" she said softly wrapping the blanket around her shoulders as Stephen occupied the spot next to her. "Are you feeling better? Less cold?" he asked taking her temperature.

She nodded her head. "It was probably a bad idea to go out in the rain right?" "Most definitely,but you're you" he said. "What does this mean?" she laughed softly. "You always do thing your own way" he said.

"Now come on closer" he said moving her in his arms "we've got to keep you warm before you get anymore sick".

"Stephen" she stood up as she saw him. "Christine,hi" he said walking and sitting down the to him. "Hi,I wanted to talk to you" she said softly "of course" he said. "Stephen, I" she said "look I still have feelings for you even though it's been 5 years" she said softly " I kinda blew off my wedding for you" she said. All he did was pull her close to him and kiss her. " I love you too. I love you in every universe" he said against her while the foreheads touched and she chucked.

"I love you too" she smiled. "I'm going to give you that chance but if anything happens there is no turn back. Okay?" she asked "okay" he agreed. "Now move over I wanna cuddle close to you" he said keeping her in his arms.

5 years later

"Daddy! Daddy!" a little girl with light brown hair yelled around the Sanctrum. "Ana be quiet daddy is working" Christine said placing her hand in her 5 month belly while her three year old together asked to be picked up. Christine picked her up. "will daddy be here soon?" she asked. Stephen appeared through a yellow portal "daddy!" his daughter said leaving her mothers arms and running up to him. "There you are little creature" he said picking her up.

"And how is my wife?" he asked giving her a quick peck. "I'm really well" she said softly. "You?" she asked "really well too". he said softly.

in the end the did get their happy. and as he said himself. he loves her in every universe.
