I've been meaning to compliment you on your brilliant use of Sharteshanian lullaby. I was actually disappointed that you didn't trust that page to stand as its own update. So much pathos and rage, and a complete reinvention of words you introduced years ago so silly and innocent in Sette's voice. Did you always know it would be a literal description of another character's horrific experience 10 chapters later? You're a fantastic storyteller either way. More songs!
Thank you so much! <3
Yes, I always meant the song to come back later for Anadyne. I originally had it in a few other places too - in my script I had Sette sing a snatch of it when she was angsting here and somewhere else too, can’t remember where - but a lot of times what seems good in a script doesn’t translate well to the page, so it gets cut out.
But it’ll be back again. Sette needs to see her own future in Anadyne, and the song (and what being a Frummagem means) is a connection they have. Stockyard’s fate shook her, but Anadyne, well, she’s a horror show.
There are some songs in the next chapter. Duane and Lemuel sing a delicate duet about soud girls being the most fuckable girls in the world. Speaking of things in the script that often don’t make it to the page, the song starts off with Lem grabbing his junk, but will this make the cut? Mysteries.
