It felt like a dream. Like he was falling down a very, very dark pit and no one could hear him scream as he fell. There was a sense of emptiness within. Like a part of him was missing, like someone or something took a part of him away and didn’t put it back. A memory? A feeling? No, not that. It felt more like someone was missing. A memory of a person who meant something to him. Someone who was close? Someone who made him smile? He… could not remember. All that existed was the sensation of falling.
He had the impression that he had moved a finger. But how could he move anything when he died? That’s what happened, right? As the fall continued, images flashed in his mind: fighting. Punching, kicking. One arm bursting forth from his chest. Concern for someone. There is a need to keep fighting for the sake of others. The metallic taste of blood on his mouth. And then a crack. Was his neck snapped? Was that how he died? Unclear. Unknown. There was very little he could remember from that point onward. All he knew was that he was falling.
Another finger moved. It was almost like he could hear someone’s voice far, far away. Was that an angel? Were they coming to collect his soul and take him somewhere peaceful? But… what about the others? There was someone he needed to check on. Make sure he was alright. He couldn’t die yet. Not before making sure he was alright… could he? Wouldn’t that be categorized as an unfinished business? Wouldn’t that keep him on Limbo rather than take him somewhere peaceful??
No.
No.
No.
It wasn’t his time yet. It couldn’t be. There was someone out there that… He needed to make sure that…
A loud gasp is taken, body suddenly sitting upright as Prometheus comes back from death. It’s sudden – like a backlash from a rollercoaster – the thoughts in his mind scrambled and confused. He doesn’t remember anything from just now. Just the memory of having his neck snapped and his body falling to the ground. It takes Lars a moment to realize where he was. A cold, gray room. Florescent lights above him, people wearing masks and gloves around him, holding up a scalpel. And he was… NAKED? Wait… why was he naked? He had clothes when he fell right? He didn’t die – did he? Sure, his neck was snapped but that didn’t mean he… he…
His scream frightens the doctors who back away, as Prometheus nearly falls to the ground, barely holding onto the sheet that covered his private parts. “Were you about to…” Were those motherfuckers going to autopsy him? “You have been dead for several hours.” That was one of their responses. “We truly believed you were gone for good. This is… this is surreal!” Nope. Nopety nope. Lars didn’t want to hear anything about that. He knew his powers allowed him to heal from pretty much anything but coming back from ACTUAL death? Having his neck snapped and still be able to return?
”KEEP THOSE THINGS AWAY FROM ME!” He pointed a finger to a doctor, blue eyes opened wide in shock, surprise, panic and wonder. Maybe because his brain was still active? Was that why he was still able to recover? It didn’t matter. Not now. Not when he remembered the name of the person he needed to check on. The name of the person he wanted to see – to know whether or not they were alive and well or… not. “I can’t stay here.” It didn’t matter if he was naked. Prometheus was already stumbling his way to the doors, almost as if his legs forgotten how to walk. “We should do more tests to guarantee that you…” The comment was met with Prometheus shaking his head. “No tests.” Not now. Not now. Not before he…
He bolted out the morgue as naked as the day he came into that world. With each passing second, his body remembered how to walk. How to run. How to move. He bolted out of the morgue with long strides, opening doors along his path without care or concern. Only one thing was on his mind now: was he safe? Was he alive? If something had happened to him because he wasn’t there to keep him safe, no matter how long he would live, he would never forgive himself.
Theseus. Where was Theseus?
