“I still don’t see why I can’t just tell you where to put the decorations,” Hermione suggests. “That way we’ve reached a happy medium.” Pansy shoots her a droll look, before saying, “We can’t do that, darling, because last year started the exact same way. You sat there and told me where to put the decorations, and I almost flung them at your head. Then you got up and started moving everything around, and taking ornaments out of my hands, and I almost strangled you with the tinsel. As much as I love you, decorating doesn’t exactly bring out the best in you.” Hermione feels a curl of warmth flicker to life inside her stomach. No matter what they are doing, no matter what season it was, she will never tire of hearing those three little words. “I love you too,” Hermione says, murmuring the words against the lip of her mug. Pansy pauses, a glass icicle dangling from the tip of her forefinger, and a delightful shade of pink dusts the apples of her cheeks. “Yes, well, obviously,” Pansy says, clearing her throat.

Normally, Hermione would spend this time chatting with Harry and Draco about their plans for the upcoming week, her frustrations at work, and how they all desperately wanted a holiday. Parkinson's presence made Hermione reluctant to discuss anything of importance—or, if she were honest, anything at all. So she sat in her usual chair and drank slowly from the tumbler of firewhiskey in her hand. Harry's eyes began to droop as he relaxed against Draco's leg.   A quiet, feminine chuckle broke the stillness. Although Hermione was just thinking of how uncomfortable it felt to sit there without talking, she resented that Parkinson was the one to break the silence.   “I was just thinking,” Pansy began, her voice wistful and light. “Remember when we were engaged, Draco?”   Harry's eyes snapped open at that.

I used to, back in the day when I was actually reading Harry Potter fics and absorbing all the fanons and the characters who barely have screentime in the movies. We’re talking a decade ago here. And it’s just been too long and Pansy... was barely a character in the movies, so though I rewatch them every like three years or so, it’s been just way too long to have any sort of attachment to Pansy and therefore the ship. ^^°

But I do remember that I loved fanon!Pansy a lot. And did ship this.

“So,” Pansy began, eyes scanning the various articles, “care to enlighten me as to why I just had to write a rather large cheque to the Ministry?.  Isn’t that what you keep a rich boyfriend around for?” She grinned.  

Hermione snatched the magazine from her friend’s hands, swatting her on the arm with it.  “No, it most certainly is not what I keep Draco for.  I have no interest in his money…”

“Relax, girl, I was joking,” Pansy chuckled, her hands raised defensively as Hermione resumed raining down blows with the magazine before throwing it on the coffee table and dropping heavily onto the sofa.

“Where is Draco anyway?” Pansy asked, suddenly realising that it was she and not Draco who was listed as her ‘in case of emergency’ person.  “Is everything okay with you two?”

“Yes, couldn’t be better.  He’s in Italy, with Blaise.  Trying to convince him to give up the self-imposed exile,” Hermione waved dismissively, leaning back into the sofa, closing her eyes.

“Why didn’t he tell me?” Pansy pouted.

Hermione’s eyes shot open.  “Shit, I wasn’t supposed to say anything.  He wasn’t sure if Blaise would go for it and didn’t want you to get your hopes up,” Hermione explained.

Pansy continued to pout for a moment.  “Well, I appreciate the sentiment, but he and I will have to have a little chat once he is home,” she responded darkly, before flashing a wicked grin at Hermione.

“You two are utterly ridiculous,” Hermione sighed, closing her eyes again.
