Her room is a wreck, clothes and toiletries and art supplies scattered everywhere, but Darcy isn’t really seeing any of it. As she stands at the foot of her bed, preparing for a trip she never in her life would have or could have imagined she’d make, she realizes there’s something she needs -- something she wants -- that isn’t here.

She turns her head towards the door into the hallway and calls out.

“Um... hey, T’Challa? ...can you come here?”

   “Hi - Bruce Banner, here; we met in a library, once, a while ago.   The Internet tells me your someone pretty important too, but I’m not interested in that, other than --   I’m looking for some information about large-stock uses of Vibranium.  It’s a classified project but I could give you some details if you gave me a call back.  Even more if we could meet in person.   Let me know.” 

The voicemail has a phone number attached to it, and as Bruce hangs up, he hopes he’ll be hearing back from the man ( who would be something of a leading expert ) sooner rather than later.

It took some staring before Carol could tell for sure that T’Challa. She recalled hearing his name in support of the Accords and well, if there was a better time to introduce herself, she figured now was as great a time as any.

“T’Challa?”

Carol wanted to be polite, make a good first impression, all those good things. She was talking to royalty after all. When he gave her his attention, she extended a hand to him.

“Carol Danvers, it’s nice to meet you.”

[ The last thing she wants is to interrupt him, but some quick calculating tells her it’s around 8 PM in Wakanda. He should be free by now, she thinks. Nervously she twirls her ring around her finger as she sits and waits for him to respond to her video call. ]

Practical Magic AU

1. Jane and Darcy are orphaned sisters who move in with their aunts in their sprawling New England manor after their parents’ deaths. Darcy and Jane’s mother died of a broken heart after the death of their father, a tragedy caused by the curse over their family that killed any man who fell in love with a woman of their line.The aunts are witches and train the girls in magic and spells -- Jane excels but Darcy isn’t too far behind, even though she’d rather roam the house, the yard, and the bluffs at the edge of their land with the small black kitten she found abandoned than study.

2. Jane, determined never to fall in love, casts a love spell to draw the “perfect man,” knowing that he doesn’t exist and thus saving herself from a broken heart. Darcy, on the other hand, can’t wait to fall in love. She leaves the small New England town and her aunts and Jane to be with a boy. Even after they break up, she stays away, travelling from place to place and man to man until she meets the perfect guy. She writes to Jane about him, and Jane writes back to her about the remarkable man she’s fallen in love with (despite the spell she cast as a child) and the wonderful life she’s living with him and their two daughters. When the curse finally strikes and Jane’s husband is hit by a truck, Darcy drives across the country to be with her sister, and only she is able to lift Jane out of her depression and force her to continue on with her life.

3. Darcy’s perfect guy turns out to be a monster. She calls Jane to pick her up, and Jane drops everything to get to her. Before they can escape though, Darcy’s boyfriend finds them and holds them hostage. The girls try to drug him with belladonna, hoping he’ll pass out, but they accidentally kill him, so they use a forbidden spell in their aunts’ book to bring him back to life. It goes wrong, and Jane kills him again with three whacks to the back of the head with a cast iron skillet to keep him from strangling Darcy. They bury him in the back yard and vow not to tell the aunts or anyone else what happened. 

4. Thor is the homicide detective looking to track down Darcy’s (now dead) boyfriend in connection with the murder of several other women. Jane is oddly drawn to him and feels compelled almost instantly to tell him the truth. She and Darcy instead concoct a story that they’d taken his car and left him behind after Darcy called Jane and told her he’d abused her. Thor, suspicious but also strangely drawn to Jane, investigates the car and asks questions about the girls in town and learns of their family’s reputation for killing men. Jane finally agrees to tell him the truth, but she discovers he is the perfect man she’d cast a spell for as a child and runs away from him. Thor follows her, only to witness Darcy’s ex-boyfriend’s ghost tormenting the sisters. After the encounter he leaves the house and the town unsure of what he’s seen, of whether Jane and Darcy are victims or criminals, and, after Jane tells him about her spell, why he’s even there in the first place.

5. Darcy is possessed by her ex’s angry spirit, but Jane, the aunts, and a handful of women from the town that Jane calls and asks for help banish him back to the spirit world. They receive a letter from Thor, stating that the case he’d been looking into has been closed and that they won’t be bothered again. Jane is sad to have gotten the letter and not a personal visit, but Thor shows up not long after. Darcy and her family, having reconciled with the town and broken Maria’s spell, live happily ever after and unafraid of using their magic.

PLOT TWIST: Darcy accidentally casts a spell on her cat but instead of killing him as she’d feared she did, he turns into a man. T’Challa is the last surviving member of his family of shapeshifters and would have died as a child had Darcy not rescued him and taken care of him all his life. They fall in love quickly, and Jane teases Darcy constantly about being in love with her cat.

[ Darcy stops her sketching when she sees the small smile on his face. Her own tips up the corners of her lips; were she not at the other end of the couch with her feet in his lap, she’d kiss him. ]
